1, GENERAL es
‘The model KV pump is of a vertical dnglestage doubleuction centrifugal type, and i
the pamp and driver are connected with the Dexible couplings through an intenmidate mi
shaft and 4 bulkhead stuffing box, the consruction bel simple for ease of handing. ag

2. FUMP CASING : _ z
The volute sdsing is split into two halves in
along a vertical plane containing the axis, &
Since the volute casing is of doublewotute
‘ype the radial thrust on the impeller is ay
almost balanced,
‘Also since the suction and discharge nazzled ie
are provided on the rear half casing, the
otating element can be taken out by re
moving the froat half casing (2) without
disturbing the suction and discharge pipings,
A vent 10 be connected with the stripping
6 priming line and an air valve are provided
on the volute essing
3. IMPELLER,
‘The impeller (16) is of the double-suction
type and hydruulically balanced, It fs 30
designed as to improve pump efficiency and
suction performance. Mozeovér, the dn

5. PUMP STUFFING BOX SEAL Fp 13
The stuffing box is 50 designed as to furnish the =
rmachanical seal exclusively. ‘Therefore there is
no lakage of the liquid pumped and no air Teak
into the pump.
Moweover, the operation is very simple sinoe 20
adjustment for the stuffing box during operation
is tequired,
Mechanical seal
Unbalanced type mechanical seal is fied and
flushed by preseure liquid led through the clearance
between the impeller and the mouth ring.

CHAPTER 6 DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING
14 Removal of mechanical sea
Since the mechaniesl sea) for this pump has 4
linge spring sompresion allowance and force,
from the shaft,
‘(1 As shown in Fig, 6.2 hold the tool in such
8 way that the spring force does nat act upon
the finger (48), and maintain not to transmit
Glrectly to the mechanical seal the shock pro.
duced when the ball bearing is removed,
(2) Remove the bull bearing and finger from
the shaft
G) Loosen the special to01 bolts t0 reduse the
Spring force and remove the special tool as
shown in Fig 63,
(2) Remove the mechanical seal from the shaft,

1.5. Removal of impeller
‘The impeller shaft diameter whore the impeller
(16) is fitted isthe largest and gets amillér to-
ward either end,
Fixing she impeller is by the impeller avt (27)
at the upper slde and by the split ring (70-2) at
the lower side.
(1) Remove the setscrews on the impeller nut
(27) and remove the impeller ut after re-
Moving the ball bearing, the finger and the
‘mechanical sea,
(2) Remove the impeller from the shaft,
However, if it is difficult to remove the im-
Peller fom the shaft, warm the hub of the
impeller slightly to ease working
2. ASSEMBLING
Asoambling san be carried out by reversing order
of disassembling and attention must be paid to
the followings.
(1) Clean cach part thoroughly to remove rust
and scale, and be sure there ave not injury and
base in fitting pars
12) Assemble fitting parts aezonding tw match
marks ifany,
48) Tusn uls for rotating parts seetirely and fix
antiotation device without fai,
{@) Be sure t thoroughly oleanse the ball bearing
with pure kerosene taking care to keep off
dust and foreign matter
24 Alignment
Alignment is 10 be confirmed if it is within
the specified limit shown in Tables 2.1 and 2.2
in “ALIGNMENT™.
2.2 Assembly of mechanical seal
Use the special tool for assembling the me:
chanical seal as shown in Fig. 62 atid 63.
(1) Sliding face, “O" ring and “O" ring groove
must be claned with leadles: gasoline and
wiped with soft cloth taking care to keep
off dast and other foreign matter,
(2) Toke care not to injure sliding face and “0”
ring by hitting or scoring,
(3) When Sting be sitre to apply lubricating oll
oO" ring sn sliding face
(4) Referring to Fig. 6.2 the floating seat (54.1)
(carbon) must be inseeted by hand until
touches bottom of the corer (146) firmly
taking eare not ta injure sliding face.
(5) Place the stopper ring (547) against the shaft
shoulder which forms fiting base and tighten
it by the setscrew,
(©) Confiem the winding direction of the spring
fit ie suMtable for the rotation direction of
the pump. Refer to Fig. 6,
(1) Fit rotating elemonts of the méchatival seal
and the cover (146) onto the shart.
(8) Afterward, apply the special tool and compress
the spilig evenly as shown in Fig. 6.2.
Fit the flinger and the ball bearing onto the
shaft, leaving the special tool as it sas shown
in Fig. 6.2 to compress the spring until the
otGr i settled in the vodute cating,
