the new lesson
Before we start our new lesson, let us have a game entitled “Silent Line-up”.

Mechanics:
1. Students will form a group with 10 members each.
2. Without using words, team members must communicate and line up according to birth month,
birth date, how many siblings, the last digit of their phone numbers, etc..
3. Members should not speak when lining up and cannot use writing materials as well. Use body
language or facial expressions.
4. You will be given one minute to form your line. The group who lines up in chronological order
(or almost in order) wins the game.
C. Establishing a ENGAGE
purpose for the lesson
How do you find the activity?
What were your observations while playing the game?
What do you think is the connection of our activity to our topic about Team Sports?

Team sports are about so much more than their physical benefits. This is especially so
when group sports activities are incorporated into a young person’s life. Studies have
shown a direct correlation between physical activity and academic performance.
Team sports can also help with emotional development. Team sports foster mentorship
between older players and younger players, coaches and athletes, and more. Team sports
are an excellent source of soft skills development, as they allow athletes to grow within
a supportive environment. Here are just a few of the soft skills fostered through team
sports:
1. Communication Skills - are key in maintaining a functioning sports team, whether
it’s listening to locker room pep talk, picking up on nonverbal cues given by other
players, or expressing a thought during a post-game debrief.
D. Presenting
2. Decisive Action - Sports plays happen fast, and athletes develop the skills
examples/instances of
needed to make effective snap decisions. Whether it’s a basketball player deciding
the new lesson
to shoot or a soccer player realizing his best move is to pass to a teammate for
the assist, athletes learn critical decision-making skills that will benefit them both
during and after game time.
3. Teamwork - teamwork is all about collaborating with others to reach a common
goal. The diverse pairing of personalities and scenarios will help your athlete
become adaptable, persistent, and patient. Team sports also teach a sense of
group and individual responsibility.
4. Time Management - Team athletes know that every second counts, and this value
of time will translate to their everyday life.
5. Build Self-Esteem and a Sense of Community - Team sports are said to bolster
the five C’s: competence, confidence, connections, character, and caring. At the
heart of this is self-esteem – an increased sense of self as a result of better social
interactions, stronger relationships, and higher academic performance.

Basketball equipment
One of the great things about the game is that apart from having a basketball, you require very little

I. Making  mouth guards
generalizations and  protective knee and elbow pads.
abstractions about the
lesson Some general tips
Suggestions include:

 Adults should check with their doctor before taking up basketball.

 Be aware that basketball is a fast-action game with lots of running, jumping, pivoting and
twisting, so injuries and accidents can happen easily.
 Basketball puts a lot of stress on the legs, especially the knees and ankles, and puts pressure
on tight shoulders.
 Protect yourself by becoming strong and flexible, as basketball is a very physically demanding
game.
 Warm up and stretch your muscles and joints before hitting the court. Also cool down and
stretch after playing.
 Make sure you have plenty of fluids on hand and rehydrate regularly.
 Don’t overdo it (this will depend on your age and condition). Mix it up with other low-impact
