Hybrid renewable energy systems combine different renewable energy sources to maximize resource utilization and system efficiency while reducing energy storage needs and increasing reliability. This review examines recent advances in hybrid renewable energy system configurations, design methods, and management/operation. Emerging applications include distributed hybrid systems at the generation level. Design methods see improved performance analysis and empirical studies. Management/operation advances involve smart grid integration and hybrid energy storage. Overall hybrid systems show promise in sustainably meeting increasing electricity demands.
