ACTIVITY 5: Module 11 -Gagne’s Conditions of Learning
Choose a topic with a particular lesson objective in any grade or year level. Make a
teaching sequence applying Gagne's nine instructional events. Use the Table provided
for you.
Event of Instruction Lesson Example/Condition of Learning
1. Gaining Attention Have students pose questions to be
answered by other students
2. Informing the Learner of the Objective Have learners establish criteria for
standard performance
3. Stimulating Recall of Prior Learning Have students incorporate prior learning
into current activities
4. Presenting the Stimulus Incorporate active learning strategies to
keep students involved
5. Providing Learner Guidance Use examples and non-examples –
examples help students see what to do,
while non-examples help students see
what not to do
6. Eliciting Performance Facilitate student activities ask deep-
learning questions, have students
collaborate with their peers, facilitate
practical laboratory exercises
7. Giving Feedback Evaluative feedback apprises the student
of the accuracy of their performance or
response but does not provide guidance
on how to progress.
8. Assessing Performance Implement a variety of assessment
methods to provide students with multiple
opportunities to demonstrate proficiency
9. Enhancing Retention and Transfer Continually incorporate questions from
previous tests in subsequent

examinations to reinforce course
information.
1. Explain Gagne's conditions of learning.
Gagne’s Conditions of Learning are a set of nine conditions that need to be present for
learning to be successful.
-Gain Attention
-Inform Learners of Objectives
-Stimulate Recall of Prior Learning
-Present the Material
-Provide Learning Guidance
-Elicit Performance
-Provide Feedback
-Assess Performance
-Enhance Retention and Transfer
2. Make a simple lesson outline (teaching sequence) using Gagne's instruction events.
Gagne's Instructional Events:
1. Gain Attention: Introduce the lesson topic and spark interest in the students.
2. Inform Objectives: Explain the goals of the lesson and the outcomes the students
should achieve by the end.
3. Stimulate Recall of Prior Learning: Review any relevant prior knowledge the students
may have to help them understand the current lesson.
4. Present the Material: Provide the students with the information they need to learn.
5. Provide Learning Guidance: Give the students guidance and assistance as they work
through the material.
6. Elicit Performance: Encourage the students to apply their knowledge by performing
tasks.
7. Provide Feedback: Offer feedback on the students' performances so they can
improve.
8. Assess Performance: Evaluate the students' understanding of the material.
Simple Lesson Outline:
1. Gain Attention: Introduce the topic of the lesson and ask the students engaging
questions that relate to the material.

2. Inform Objectives: Explain what the students should be able to do by the end of the
lesson.
3. Stimulate Recall of Prior Learning: Review any prior knowledge the students may
3. Discuss how Gagne's events of learning can help one to be an effective teacher.
Gagne’s events of learning can help teachers become effective educators by providing
a framework for creating engaging and effective learning experiences. The eight events
of learning include gaining attention, providing relevant information, stimulating recall of
prior learning, providing guidance and providing feedback. Each of these events of
learning can help teachers create a more effective learning experience for their
students.
From the Module on Gagne’s Conditions of Learning, I realized that…
There is more to learning than just memorization. Gagne’s Conditions of Learning
stresses the importance of providing an environment that encourages learning,
reinforcing learning, and providing feedback to learners. It emphasizes the importance
of providing meaningful contexts for learning, and of providing opportunities for learners
to practice their skills and apply what they have learned. Additionally, Gagne’s
Conditions of Learning emphasizes the importance of providing learners with motivation
to learn and to engage in meaningful activities. As a result, I now understand that
learning is more than just memorization and that effective learning requires creating an
environment that encourages learning and motivating learners to engage in meaningful
activities.
