Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory
Heidi Wempen Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory
What is your total D/I score? Describe your preferred approach for managing conflict.
My D/I score was 41, making my style for managing conflict more direct.
The guide described my conflict style very well. I do prefer to state my needs and my
wants in clear language, in face to face meetings. The booklet doesn t go into why the
direct style prefers face to face, but I know why I prefer face to face interaction. When
in conflict, it is simply because inflection, and tone of voice would be hard to convey
though mediators or though writing. The phone would give me the voice but not the
personal presence, and when tensions are high I think it is helpful to pay attention to

I also feel that reading about the other conflict styles helped me figure out a plan to
strengthen those weaknesses. The first thing that caught my eye was the
accommodation style trait of using stories. One of the last classes I took for my B.A.
was one in effective storytelling. A big focus in that class was using stories to
emotionally connect with your audience and to incorporate facts and figures into the
stories so as to make them more relatable. I think that if I practice what I learned in that
class I can combat the weakness of being too logical and unfeeling. Stories, when told
well, are meant to evoke emotions so I think that using stories to elaborate positions and
arguments could allow me to connect with people who are more emotionally expressive
in their conflict style (Hammer, 2003, p.

To increase the effectiveness of proposed changes and improvements, organizations use
multiple scientific methods and techniques. For change to be successful management
must develop political support. This support is necessary because to initiate change
management must have political power within the organization and outside of the
organization. This power is often necessary to ensure a smooth transition during the
development process (Authenticity Consulting, 2011). Organizational development of a
business may appear to be an extensive and complicated process; however, given the right
conditions the change can be almost seamless. To have successful change a crucial
component is communication. Another condition that would assist with successful
organizational development is preparing and conditioning employees for change. This is
an area where communication is pertinent. A business that has effective communication
with employees with clients and with stakeholders will have an easier transition. It is
important for employees to understand the changes taking place, why the changes are
taking place and the role he or she has in the transition. Aside from communication,
another crucial component necessary to ensure change is support. Without support,
change would be impossible. Support from management is especially important because

John Calvin Contribution
John Calvin was born in Noyon, France in 1509 to Jeanne Le France and Gérard Calvin.
His father was the secretary to the Bishop of Noyon, which allowed John the privilege
to attend universities later in life. His mother was known for being a beautiful
religious woman, who died about four years after John was born. He had an older
brother named Charles and a younger one named Antoine. His father, a religious man
himself, brought up all three children in the church. His father decided to remarry after
his wife s death and made John live with the Montmors, a powerful family that lived in
their neighborhood. Calvin pursued studying theology, Latin, and philosophy. He used
this knowledge to train to become a priest. In the end, he studied law at the
Universities of Orleans and Bourges to become a lawyer. His career path was altered to
pursue law, because his father was paying for his education. Calvin grew up Roman
Catholic, but became a Protestant around 1534. He escaped to France the same year due
to the prosecution of Protestants who were being persecuted for not following the
teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. According to the Oxford Dictionary, a
protestant is a member or follower of any of the Western Christian Churches that are
separate from the Roman Catholic Church in accordance with the principles of the
Reformation, including the Baptist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran Churches. Calvin s major
contribution to the Protestant Reformation was his writing of The
Why I Learned With Studying Linguistics
I was the child who never knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. I could see
myself doing everything because I knew that I could do anything. Fascinated by their
complexity and similarities, I slowly fell in love with languages. Nothing is quite as
beautiful as their nuances and how they vary among people. With this novel fascination, I
decided that I wanted to learn as many languages as I possibly could and everything
about them and their connections to other languages. In addition, understanding intricate
grammar rules comes easily to me, and I have always enjoyed its structure and patterns.
If I combine these two interests of mine, it is apparent that I should study linguistics. I
had figured out what I wanted to study, but not what to do after college. I remembered
helping my friends in Latin last year with the grammar rules of English and how I am
constantly correcting my family s improper grammar, and I realized that I love
explaining and teaching languages. With this realization, I decided that I wantto teach
English as a second language. Now I had to decide what college to attend. After
obsessing over the magnificent Hogwarts in all of its glory in Harry Potter, I couldn t
imagine not wanting to go to castle looking college. Who doesn t want to go to a
college that looks like a castle? Being the perfect amalgamation of appearance and
exemplary linguistics department, Cambridge is the school for me.
