Symptom
In SAP S/4HANA (Cloud Edition and On-Premise), there is a technical job repository that automatically
schedules certain (periodic) background jobs. This SAP Note contains background information on the job
repository.

Reason and Prerequisites
In SAP S/4HANA, the technical job repository carries out the scheduling of periodic technical jobs in the
ADMIN and BUSINESS clients. This mechanism is carried out automatically by the system and does not
require any user interaction, unlike the earlier "Standard Jobs" function in SM36.
Among other things, the technical job repository contains job definitions for the standard jobs mentioned in
SAP Note 16083.
Transaction SM36 in SAP S/4HANA systems has the function "Job Repository", which branches to
transaction SJOBREPO, instead of the function "Standard Jobs".
Transaction SJOBREPO displays an overview of all job definitions delivered by SAP in the technical job
repository.
You can use SJOBREPO to change a job definition (and the background job generated from it) within certain
limits or to completely deactivate it.
Solution
Caution:
A technical user with SAP_ALL authorization is required in each client to execute the technical jobs
scheduled by the job repository.
By default, the SAP S/4HANA technical job repository expects a user SAP_SYSTEM in the ADMIN (=000)
and BUSINESS clients or, if this is not available, the user DDIC. If neither SAP_SYSTEM nor DDIC exists in
a client (or if these users do not have the required SAP_ALL authorization), no jobs can be scheduled in this
client by the technical job repository.

In this case, please enter a user that should be used to execute the technical jobs in the client for each
individual client.
As of SAP S/4HANA 1610, transaction SJOBREPO_STEPUSER exists for this. This is used to create a
suitable user and assign this user to the job repository in the current client.
Before SAP S/4HANA 1610, the user must be created manually with SU01. There, only the report
R_JR_UTIL_1 exists in order to make the desired user name known to the job repository (function "Set
Default Step User").
The technical user for the job repository must have the following properties:
Alias name assigned? NO
User type System
Password deactivated? YES
SNC name assigned? NO
Validity period JAN/01/1900 - DEC/31/9999
Roles assigned? NO
Assigned profile SAP_ALL
The attached PDF document explains the functionality and customizing possibilities of the technical job
repository in SAP S/4HANA.
(SJOBREPO_STEPUSER and R_JR_UTIL_1 are relevant only for the On-Premise version of SAP S/4HANA.
In the SAP S/4HANA Cloud edition, the system administration creates the SAP_SYSTEM user required for
the job repository automatically in each client.)
