HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CHOSEN CITY?

Known as "The Big Apple," New York City is a vibrant metropolis well-known for its distinctive skyline,
varied neighborhoods, and rich cultural diversity. With a population of over 8 million, the city is a cultural
melting pot offering diverse entertainment, food, and art. With its vibrant energy, diverse population,
and worldwide significance, New York City enthralls visitors with its tall Manhattan skyscrapers and
colorful neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens.

WHAT IS YOUR CITY KNOWN FOR?

The Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building dominate New York's distinctive skyline, which is
known worldwide. The city, renowned for being a melting pot of cultures, is well-known for its Broadway
theaters, top-notch museums, and varied culinary scene, all of which contribute to its standing as a top
attraction for international food, entertainment, and the arts.

WHAT MAKES IT A GLOBAL CITY?

- INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL SERVICES


o New York offers extensive international financial services, ranging from global banking
and investment management to insurance. The city's well-known Wall Street is a focal
point for significant financial institutions such as global banks and investment firms,
contributing to the city's standing as a central economic hub.
- MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION HEADQUARTERS
o Dubbed as “The City That Never Sleeps,” New York houses some of the most
recognizable multinational companies globally, further enforcing exactly why New York is
one of the busiest cities.
o These companies include the Scholastic Corporation (1986), WarnerMedia (1990), and
Tiffany & Co. (1837)
- EXISTENCE OF FINANCIAL HEADQUARTERS, A STOCK EXCHANGE, AND MAJOR FINANCIAL
INSTITUTIONS
o The city of New York has an entire district dedicated to conducting finance-related
business stock exchange. It is home to various business offices and the headquarters of

o The services and information sectors employ a sizable portion of the people living in
New York City. The city serves as a global center for media, technology, finance, and
other service-oriented industries, which helps to create a vibrant and varied labor
market in these fields.
- HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, INCLUDING RENOWNED UNIVERSITIES,
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ATTENDANCE, AND RESEARCH FACILITIES
o New York City has about 110 colleges and universities, some of which are the top-
performing educational institutions in the US, such as Columbia University, New York
University, and Fordham University

Cromwell, which draw top legal talent and take on high-profile cases, New York is
recognized as a global center for the legal industry.
o Top-notch healthcare facilities in New York include well-known establishments like New
York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Mount Sinai Health System. These facilities are
known for their cutting-edge medical services, excellent patient care, and creative
research, all of which contribute to the city's reputation as a center for top-notch
healthcare.
o With legendary locations like the Richard Rodgers Theatre and notable cultural icons like
the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York offers top-notch entertainment.
- HIGH DIVERSITY IN LANGUAGE, CULTURE, RELIGION, AND IDEOLOGIES
o LANGUAGE
 New York has a wide variety of languages due to the city's steady stream of
tourists and immigrants. An amalgamation of languages such as Spanish, which
happens to be the second most spoken language spoken in the city, the rapidly
increasing usage of Mandarin Chinese, Russian, West Germanic Languages, etc.
are being used increasingly.
 Foreign languages are so prevalent in the city that 46% of the population
actively speaks languages other than English.
o RELIGION
 Despite the seemingly vast scale of Catholic believers within the city, Catholicism
only represents 40% of the population. The other 30% of New York’s population
represents the Protestants, 8.5% for the Jewish community, and 3.5% for the
Muslims. As for the remaining civilians of New York, an estimated 13% claim to
have zero affiliations with religion.
o IDEOLOGIES
 According to extensive research conducted by the Pew Research Center,
“Political ideology among adults in New York” there are four prominent
ideologies present in New York: Conservative, Moderate, Liberal, and Unknown.
 Conservative
 Individuals who abide by the ideology of Conservatism aim to preserve
traditional family values and promote moral absolutism. This often
aligns with Catholic beliefs, resulting in many Catholic conservatives.
 Among the adults in New York, 29% are Conservatives.
 Moderate
 Moderates stand between the Conservatives and the Liberals.
Individuals who identify as Moderates see both sides as extremes that
they do not want to be a part of and believe both are ‘overly
ideological.’
 Among the adults in New York, 34% are Moderates.
 Liberal
 The Liberal ideology includes the advocacy for equality, individual
liberty, autonomy, and consent.
 Among the adults in New York, 31% are Liberals.
 Unknown
 The “Unknown” represents the individuals who are uncertain about the
ideologies present in New York.
 Among the adults in New York, 6% do not identify with the
aforementioned ideologies.
