STUDENT’S EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Chunk 1 Definition of Art (Day 1)
Lesson proper
Art is a form of communication. It means whatever you intend it to mean, and this meaning is shaped by the materials, techniques, and forms it makes use of, as well as the
ideas and feelings it creates on its viewers. Art is an act of expressing your feelings, thoughts, and observations.
Formative Question
1. What is Art?
2. Do you believe that art is everywhere?
3. How does art help establish a nation’s culture and identity?
Activity
To determine the extent of which art is known, let the students find a partner then they will write three words that represent art and discuss it to the rest of class.
Instructions
1. Find a partner.
2. Discuss with your partner your definition or understanding of art.
3. List down three words/phrases that represent the idea of art for both of you.
4. Discuss with another pair how your chosen words/phrases represent art.
Chunk 2 7 Visual Elements of Art (Day 2)
Lesson proper
Process of Communication
1. Line is a prolongation of a point or a mark on a surface. You’re using solid lines in order to define form while broken lines are typically used to suggest hidden forms.
2. Shape and Mass is an area with boundaries identified or drawing lines. You use shape when doing two-dimensional and mass for solid portions of a three-dimensional
object.
3. Color is visual perception that allows you to differentiate objects due to the way various wavelengths of light are reflected. You can communicate information and
emotion to the viewer by the use of color.
There are three properties of color:
Hue-is a basic or pure of your chosen color and is represented in the color wheel.
Value- is the lightness and darkness of the color that you used.
Saturation- is the brightness and dullness of your chosen color.
4. Texture- is the feel or appearance of a surface of your artwork. You may describe as actual or implied. Actual texture can
be felt tangibly based on the material that is used for the artwork while implied texture can be exhibited, for instance, in a
painting of fur of an animal.
5. Value- is the lightness or darkness of an area of your artwork. This is evident when you’re creating shadows for a two-dimensional object to give an
illusion of depth.
6. Space- is the area that is occupied by an object or a subject, as well as the area surrounding that object or subject of your artwork. An illusion of space can
still be created in a two-dimensional surface using perspective.
7. Time and Motion- is the movement in your visual arts can either be an illusion or an actual motion. An illusion of movement is more common in two-
dimensional artworks. On the other hand, actual motion is easily seen in kinetic sculpture that moves with the wind or is vibrating with the surrounding air.
