Book Report - The Four Agreements

This document summarizes the four agreements outlined in Miguel Ruiz's book "The Four Agreements": [1] Be impeccable with your word - Speak with integrity and avoid speaking against yourself or criticizing others. [2] Don't take anything personally - Don't carry the weight of others or take reactions personally, as others are living their own realities. [3] Don't make assumptions - We tend to make assumptions and draw conclusions without full information. [4] Always do your best - Give your maximum in each encounter without judging yourself.

“The four Agreements “

By Miguel Ruiz

First Agreement "Be impeccable with your word"

The words that come out of our mouth are the ones that create us
every day since words can transform anything and that is why we have
to use them very carefully, knowing that each one would be a reality. In
this first agreement, Miguel Ruiz advises us to speak with integrity, only
what we want to say and avoid the word to speak against ourselves or
to criticize others.

Second Agreement "Do not take anything personally"

We each live our own dream, in our own mind in which we are the
protagonists and each of us face our own history by living our lives and
solving personal conflicts, other people only enter as third parts of our
own reality, so that any action, reaction or episode that happens to us
with another person has absolutely nothing to do with us, perhaps the
person is going through a very difficult time and simply reacts in that
specific way to any situation that happens to them, but that has nothing
To do with ourselves, we have to learn that we should not carry the
weight of others and not take the reaction of other people personally.

Third Agreement "Do not make assumptions"

This chapter is linked to the previous one, as the protagonists of our

own film we tend to make assumptions and draw conclusions from
absolutely everything, believing that what we suppose is true and
mounting a parallel reality about it and how bad that parallel reality that
we mount in the head is not always positive and it is not always allied
by confidence.

We deduce that the other no longer loves me because he does not say
hello or write to me. We think the boss doesn't want to give us a raise
because he doesn't invite us to important meetings. We create
authentic realities based on rumors or situations that we lack
information every day.

But all that can be solved by asking questions and really expressing
what we want.

Fourth Agreement "Always do your best"

In this agreement, what the author advises us is to always give our

best, you will always know that it is the maximum that you give in each
encounter. It is not the same to give our best when we are tired and
without energy or when we are totally healthy. The important thing is
that we do our best and thus avoid judging ourselves.

“It is the attitude of the conscious leader who does not care about what
others think, but only gives what comes naturally to him, being faithful
to the impulses of his soul, acting with courage, even if it is against
social norms and cultural. It falls and gets up. He falls and gets up,
over and over again. But it is not judged,
Personally, the one that I consider the most important is the fourth
agreement "Always do your best " because I believe that you can
always give your best, you can always improve every day and I believe
that if we give our best, there is a less likely that we do not feel bad
about ourselves and I think that what is important is how we feel about
the decisions we make.

I think that the one that I handle a little more is the one of: "Don't take
anything personal" I consider that many times I don't let the bad
attitudes taken by other surrounding people affect my emotional
integrity, because I think it is Better not to let your bad feedback affect
us in any way. Other people will always have a different perception of
things.

The one that I consider that I need to work more is in the one of: "Be
impeccable with your word" Many times the words come out without
thinking twice and many times I end up hurting people, without even
having the intention of doing it, that's why I think I try to think more
about what I'm going to say, try to do it in a more subtle way, trying not
to harm others.
