Question 1: LOCATIONS ON MAPS

Study the following map showing location of places in Degrees and Minutes

1.1 State the name given to vertical lines and horizontal lines labeled X and Y [2]
1.2 Give the location of the following places in Degrees and minutes following the
example below.

Question 2: State whether the following statements are TRUE or FALSE.

2.1 Satellites collect information about the earth which is used to compile a
satellite image.

2.2 The Greenwich meridian is a Latitude like the equator

2.3 Places in the Western hemisphere are a day earlier are a day earlier than
places in the eastern hemisphere.

2.4 Earth rotates from West to East resulting in day and night.

2.5 The International Date line is the 180˚ line opposite the Greenwich Meridian.

Statement Scale.

3.1 Write down the other TWO types. [2]

3.2 Write the following scales as Statement Scales

a) 1: 50 000

3.3 Explain why it is important to use Scale on maps. [2]

3.4 Which scale is bigger than the other between 1:50 000 and 1:5 000. Give a
reason for your answer. [2]
