1. Discuss about the equation of Mechanical Energy and derive the equation

2. Effect of altitude on air pressure. When standing at the mouth of the Ontonagon
River on the south shore of Lake Superior (602 ft above mean sea level), your
portable barometer indicates a pressure of 750 mm Hg. Use the equation of
motion to estimate the barometric pressure at the top of Government Peak (20023
ft above mean sea level) in the nearby Porcupine Mountains. Assume that the

D
temperature at lake level is 70°F and that the temperature decreases with
increasing altitude at a steady rate of 3°F per 1000 feet. The gravitational

variation with altitude may be neglected.

acceleration at the south shore of Lake Superior is about 32.19 ft/s, and its

3. Discuss about the multi component equations of change in terms of the fluxes?

4. Derive the equations for unsteady state Laminar flow between two parallel plates

U W
(having distance between two plates is b) to find the velocity vx as a function of y
and t. There is no pressure gradient or gravity. Take necessary assumptions if
needed.

5. Write the procedure to solve flow problems using a stream function.

6. Discuss about time smoothened equation of state for incompressible fluids and
write equation of change in vector form

7. Discuss the following in packed bed reactor

a. Overall macroscopic mass balances.
b. Application of the macroscopic-balances in the d-form.
c. Determination of interfacial conditions.
d. Determination of required column height

8. Write short note on 3*4=12

b. Unsteady state laminar flow
c. Maxwell equations
d. Nusselt number.
