Castle Project.
Once the basic castle relief has been created, textures will be applied to give the Castle walls
a brick effect and to create a Portcullis.
From Examples2, open the model trainingcastle.art.
This file has already been prepared with different
vectors on different layers.
Switch off all layers except towers.
Generate a Turn -relief for each tower with a Z scaling factor of 0.5,
using Add.
Switch on only the layer called outer and Double click the vector.
Click the Zero rest button from the Shape Editor form to remove the
castellated shape of the battlements.
Switch on only the
layer called wall.
Double Click the vector and select a flat plane with a start height of 0.5.
Select Merge High.
Switch on only the layer called windows.
Double Click the vectors and select a pyramid shape with an angle of –
45 degrees and a start height of 0.
Select Add.

Switch on the layers - outer and windows.
Select the outer vector and shift select the windows vectors.
Select the Texture Relief button on the Relief Editing toolbar.
Select the From File Option. Click on the File button.
From the Examples/Castle directory, select Bricks.rlf and press Open.
Ensure that the option Selected Vector is active and that Link is ticked.
Input a Width of 1, a Z height of 0.1 and set the texture Spacing values to
99.5 X%, 99.5 Y%, and 0 0%.
Press Add and then Close.
Switch on the layer gate
and select the vector.
Generate a texture, using
the same values as before, using
the file EvenMesh.rlf from the
Examples/Castle folder. Select
Add.
Due to the effect of the resolution, the texture area is slightly overlapping the castle entrance,
and as a result a small part of the gate texture is running up the sides. To overcome this the
main castle relief should be merged high over the gate relief (in the reverse order to above).
Select Undo.
Save the main castle relief in C:/temp as castle.rlf.
Reset the relief.
Generate the Texture of the gate.
Select Load Relief and re-import castle.rlf from C:/temp using the option
Merge Highest.

Leaf Example
The Spin function with Z modulation will be used to produce the initial shape followed by
Colour Linking and the Shape Editor.
Open the model Spinleaf.art from the Examples/Swept_P directory.
Use the middle leaf shape vector to generate a spin relief using the
rippled top vector as the Z modulation curve. Select Add
Select the 2D View as the current view and assign Red as the Primary
Colour.
Select the Keep Under Colour button on the Relief Editing toolbar.
This will limit the relief (as shown below) to within the Primary - Red (Leaf) areas.
Select the Unlink All Colours button (The green coloured veins
will appear on the 2D view Bitmap and green will become the Primary
colour).

Click the Add Relief button on the Relief toolbar to indent the veins
into the leaf forms based on pre-defined settings for the green colour.
Click the Smooth Relief button on the Relief Editing toolbar.
Set Smoothing Passes to 5.
Chocolate Bar Mould Example
Open the model wings.art from Examples2/Butterfly-data folder.
The left wing is generated using the Two Rail Sweep
for each part, the relief is mirrored to produce the
right wing and the central shape is merged high to
the wings.
On the top left wing, select the lower vector, the top vector and the
vector at the top of the 2D view.
Generate a Two Rail Sweep relief using Add.

On the bottom left wing, select the inside tiny vector, the outer vector
and the long vector at the bottom (as shown below left).
Generate a two rail sweep relief using Highest.
Save the relief in C:\Temp as left-wing.
Select Load Relief and re-import the saved left-wing.rlf, selecting Paste.
Apply the Rotate - Horizontal mirror option, a Move of X 22mm, and with
Mode set to Add, Paste it into the model (as shown below).
Use the three lower body vectors and generate a Two Rail Sweep, relief
using Highest.
Generate a turn relief using Merge Highest from the upper body, vector.

Save the relief in C:\Temp as full-butterfly.
Open the model mould.art from Examples2/Butterfly-data folder.
Create an extruded surface using the vectors; making sure the relief is
on the inside of the outer vector - drive curve.
Create an Offset - vector, 2mm inside the original outer vector.
Assign a Pale Blue colour as the Primary.
Select a 2D view and with the new, 2mm offset vector selected click on
Flood Fill Vectors .
Assign yellow as the Primary and using Bitmap Editing - Flood Fill
click outside the pale blue area.
Double click in the pale blue area to open the Shape Editor and create a
plane of height 6 mm using Merge High to fill the centre of the relief.
In the 2D View, Load Relief - full-butterfly using Paste, dynamically scale
and position it near the centre, in Mode enter a Start Height value of 0.5,
Apply, and select Add.
Assign White as the Primary colour.
In the 2D view, select the butterfly vector followed by Flood Fill
Vectors.
Create a new Offset - vector, 4.5mm inside the original, outer vector.
With Purple assigned as the Primary colour and both the new inner
and butterfly shape, vectors selected apply Flood Fill Vectors.

With Purple still assigned as the Primary colour, generate a texture using
the Selected Colour option with a Weave of size 5 and a Z Height of 0.5.
Frame Example
This example loads in a frame relief from which the cross section vector is extracted. This
new vector is edited to exclude the weave and a replacement circular frame relief is
generated.
Close any models and Load Relief - frame.rlf from Examples2.
This frame relief has the correct cross section that is required for
the new frame, apart from the weave. By default, when a relief
is loaded into ArtCAM a Greyscale Bitmap is active in the 2D
view.
Select the 2D view.
Create a polyline from –40 0 to 0 0.
This line represents where the cross section will take place.
This line can be snapped onto when the cross section is
generated.
From the Relief toolbar, select Create
Cross Section

The Assistant displays the Create Relief Cross Section page. This is where the position of
the required the cross section is defined by an angled line. This can be achieved by clicking
on grid points, by eye, or by clicking on vectors.
The cross section can be displayed at the angle it is created or it can be aligned horizontally.
Click on the left end and then the right end of the polyline and press
Create and then Close.
The cross section is drawn as a 2D vector.
Remove the bottom vector, under the frame relief and remove the weave
detail, by removing the innermost points.
Make
the right end, the vector start point.
Reset the relief and use this vector to Add a new Spin Relief.
The new frame has been produced to the same height as
the original. In Addition to Spin Relief the new cross
section vector is available for use with any other suitable
relief creation options.
