Silk-Road Scholarship Program for Fall 2021
Background We are pleased to announce the call for the Silk-Road Scholarship of Fall 2021.
The Silk-Road Scholarship Program is jointly funded by the SBS Foundation and Seoul National University,
established in Fall 2009. This program is designed specifically for students wishing to study humanities and social
sciences. Currently the scholarship is given to five students annually, providing financial assistance that covers
the cost of full tuition and living expenses. Students from countries located in the area of the Silk-Road may
apply. We believe that educating and training scholars in humanities social sciences related to Korea is crucial to
expand he international base of Korean studies, and also essential to strengthen the global competitiveness of
Korean education and research. To this end, this program intends to promote, support, and contribute to:
Expansion of the field of humanities as a fundamental area of study which was under-funded due to the
development of technology field
Supporting education and research for international students
Eligibility All applicants for this Program must fulfill all of the following requirements:
Criteria International (foreign) students who will be entering SNU for Fall 2021
Must be referenced by the university the applicant graduated in following countries:
Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan,
Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Yemen, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Ethiopia, Hungary, Russia
Potential master’s/Ph.D. student who applied for the designated departments which participate with the Silk-Road
Program for the Fall semester:
Departments related with Humanities or Social Sciences (including Korean Language, History, Culture,
Politics, and Economics)
Selection Important factors in the selection of the scholarship recipients include:
Criteria Commitment to pursuing a career in Humanities and Social Sciences.
Financial need
Potential contribution to the Korean community.
About the Application period
Scholarship Only intended for Fall semesters
Value of the award
Awards cover full tuition fees for 2 years (4 semesters) and provide a grant for living expenses (KRW 600,000 per
month), a round-trip airfare up to KRW1, 000,000 based on GTR System and Korean classes up to 2 sessions.
Duration
Scholarships are renewed semi-annually for up to 4 semesters on the basis of academic requirements.
Students must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0./4.3 to continue benefits from the scholarship.
Application Admission Applications: Submit required documents to the SNU Office of Admissions after completing the on-
procedure line application no later than March 11(Thurs), 2021, 17:00.
Scholarship Applications: Submit your Silk-Road Scholarship application to Office of International Affairs (2nd
floor) by post or in person. (Deadline: March 12(Fri), 2021, 17:00)
When decisions are made, only accepted candidates will be contacted.
Required Required Documents are:
documents for 1) application form with that explains the applicant’s financial position and study plan
application 2) letter of recommendation (must be SEALED)
3) copy of university(undergraduate school) diploma or certificate of pending graduation
4) copy of academic transcripts (from the university that the applicant went through as an undergraduate or a
graduate)
5) official documents that can verify academic performance or foreign language proficiency (Either English or
Korean)
Supplementary Documents are:
1) documents that can certify extra-curricular activities from the applicant’s university(as an undergraduate or a
graduate)
2) documents that can certify achievement of research
3) documents that can prove family’s economic situation, etc.
4) other documents the applicant wishes to submit that are relevant to the application
Fall 2021 Deadline
Important Applications must be submitted to the Office of International Affairs no later than March 12(Fri), 2021, 17:00.

Results
Scholarship recipients will be notified on June 30th(Wed), 2021 after 17:00.
Only recipients will be notified by e-mail.
Other Recipients are expected to submit an Activity Report to the Silk-Road Scholarship Committee on their work at the
information end of every semester.
