CHAPTER 1
The Problem
INTRODUCTION
Call of Duty is a popular online game franchise that has been around for over a decade. In 2019, Activision
released Call of Duty Mobile, a mobile version of the game that quickly became a massive success. Call of Duty
Mobile generated over $1 billion in revenue in just one year of release, making it one of release, making it one of the
fastest-growing games in history, according to Sensor Tower. It is the first installment in Call of Duty franchise,
released on October 29,2003, for Microsoft windows. The game simulates and combined arms warfare of world war
II using a modified version of an id tech 3 engine. Much of its theme and gameplay is similar to the medal of honor
series; however, Call of Duty showcases multiple viewpoints staged in the American, British, and Soviet theaters of
World War II.
According to Treyarch, one last World War II-Based game, world at War (2008), before releasing Black Ops
(2010) and subsequently creating the Black Ops sub-series. Four others entries, Black Ops II (2012), Black Ops III
(2015), Black Ops 4 (2018), and Cold War (2020) were made, the last in conjunction with Raven Software. As of
April 2021, Call of Duty has sold over 400 million copies. The series is verified by Guinness World Records as the
best-selling first-person shooter game series.
Internationally, many players are returning to relieve to the classic Black Ops and Modern Warfare entries,
hoping for a nostalgic and enjoyable experience, but they being disappointed by the presence of hackers who ruin
the fun for everyone else. Based on information gathered from the Sweden official gaming website (2009) the market
for computer and video games and continues to grow at accelerating pace within the Scandian, including to
Sweden.
In the Philippines, Call of Duty is the top 2 most popular games year (2022) which is why a lot of Filipino’s
addicted to that this kind of game. Additionally, a flourishing industry in the Philippines, with revenues showing
exponential growth in 2020 compared to the previous years.
Furthermore, the Province of CAMIGUIN Call of duty is one wildly use online games activities by many gamers’
students. For some students it is said that playing call of duty has a number of reasons to be played, for it can be
stress reliever. The fact that the LAWIGAN-BURA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL is an informative lifestyle where
everything is updated, internet became one of the necessities of student regardless of age and sex in today’s society.
But the influence of this useful machine on youth is undeniably questionable. In line with this development, call of
duty was created to give entertainment to students.
Teens and even adults spend a lot of their in mobile games. Call of duty lets you experience soldier’s life and
the thrill that everyone wants to experience. Call of duty can also help you improve socially, just by communicating
with others, you can gain a lot of friends. Players approximately spend a half an hour just to play, but enjoyment
leads them to spend a lot of time.
Hence, call of duty is a game enjoyed by some students. However, it has positive and negative effects in our
daily lives. The positive are you can have the ability to solve your problem is in your own way, the negative effects
are, you could be addicted to this game which can result to lack of sleep. Because of this you would have lack of
time management. Academic performance is affected by addiction of call of duty because, addiction is the main
reason why students can’t focus on their studies. But beside that, call of duty could help the students improve their
interpretation skills and accuracy which could help in some cognitive task.
Theoretical Framework
Game Dependency Theory
Game Dependency Theory, suggest that prolonged gameplay of online games can lead to dependency or
addiction. Excessive playtime can result in loss control and an inability to resist a desire to play, negatively affecting
academic performance. Moreover, the theory posits that gaming addiction may also result in cognitive difficulties,
including impaired concentration, memory loss, and a decrease in critical thinking skills that could hamper
academic performance.
Overall, these theoretical frameworks suggest that prolonged online gaming can lead to negative effects on
academic performance. These theories offer useful insights into how Call of duty mobile games could impair
academic performance, highlighting what to avoid in gaming behavior, and how gaming addiction prevents students
from achieving their academic goals.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The figure 1 shows the conceptual paradigm of the study, with which it employs the input, process and output
(IPO) approach. The input is composed of respondent’s demographic profile which includes age, sex, grade level,
parent’s educational attainment, family income. The process is composed of survey questionnaires and the expected
output of the study are the effects of call of duty on mobile games in academic performance.

Statement of the Problem
This study aims to determine the effects of call of duty on mobile games in LAWIGAN BURA NATIONAL
HIGHSCHOOL.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:
1. How may profile of the respondents be described in terms of:

1.3. Grade level
1.4. Parents’ Highest Educational Attainment
1.5. Family Monthly Income
2. What are the effects of call of duty on mobile games in academic performance in LAWIGAN BURA NATIONAL
HIGH SCHOOL.
Scope and delimitation
This study was mainly concerned and limited only with the effects of call of duty in academic performance in
LAWIGAN BURA NATIONAL HIGHSCHOOL. Ten students in each grade level were randomly picked, specifically, from
grade 7 to 12 for a total of 60 respondents.
Significance of the study
The researchers believed that the results of this work can provide relevant information of the following
groups of individual.
This study aims to guide the student through their mobile game activities. The experience of the student whose
grades are affected due to this game will be exposed in this study.
To Basic Education Faculty this study will serve as a guide for the reason of poor performance of the mobile game
players in your class. Also, it will add some knowledge on how you can properly handle this kind of student, by
teaching them the proper time management. This study will also give you a background that can help you deal with
the students failing grades, and what appropriate advice can you give to them.
To parents on this research, will serve as a guide on the things that is happening in your child physically, and
mentally. This study will also help you decide on what you can do to prevent your child from the negative effects of
call of duty. Also, you can also know the negative and positive effects of your child’s time.
To the future researchers the outcome of our study will be a foundation for the other researchers, and make their
works easy in gathering information’s, thoughts and facts.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
For better understanding of the study, the following terms are defined according to the context in which they
are used:
BALANCE: having time management in enjoying and studying, neither any of them will surpass each other.
CHALLENGE: to dispute especially as being unjust invalid or outmoded.
COMPETITION: it’s a tournament between two team who’s fighting for there base who ever wins will get a
reward inspiration.
STRATEGIC: Take charge and keep up with a fast-growing technology.
STRESS RELIEVER: Something that relieves pain, stress, pain relievers etc.
TEMPTATION: Players attempt to use any kinds of mobile apps because of influence of the other people.
RADIATION: It causes brain damage to those people who are getting addicted to mobile games.
