NIYYAH
01 Before anything else, the intention behind the
memorization of the Quran should be seeking the face
of Allah. The longing should neither be any worldly
attainment nor any financial gain, rather soley for the
sake of Allah. As only then is this beautiful, auspicious
act accepted by Allah. Thus, safeguard your hifth with
the correct niyyah.
As Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, has said,
""اﻧﻤﺎ ﻳﺤﻔﻆ اﻟﺮﺟﻞ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻗﺪر ﻧﻴﺘﻪ
"Indeed a man memorizes according to his
intention."
CLEANSE YOUR HEART
The esteemed Shaykh Salih al Usaymi has said,
"ﻓﻤﻦ أراد ﺣﻴﺎزة اﻟﻌﻠﻢ ﻓﻠﻴﺰﻳﻦ ﺑﺎﻃﻨﻪ و ﻳﻄﻬﺮ ﻗﻠﺒﻪ ﻣﻦ
02
ﻓﺎﻟﻌﻠﻢ ﺟﻮﻫﺮ ﻟﻄﻴﻒ ﻻ ﻳﺼﻠﺢ اﻻ ﻟﻠﻘﻠﺐ، ﻧﺠﺎﺳﺘﻪ
" اﻟﻨﻈﻴﻒ
"Thus whosoever wants to attain knowledge,
then he should beautify his inner self, and
cleanse his heart from its impurities; As
knowledge is an elegant jewel, and it is not
befitted except for the cleansed heart."
03
DUA
We should get into the habit of making dua for our
hifth journey at every stage of it. As Allah continues
to encourage us to make dua to Him when He says,
"The most beautiful names belong to Allah:
so call on him by them."
ﺐ ﻟَ ُﻜ ْﻢ ُ َ َ
"And your Lord says: "Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer)"
And Allah says,

ﺒ ﻋ ﻚ ﻟ
"And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am
very near; I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he calls
on Me."
And Allah says,
"Or, Who answers the distressed one when he calls upon Him
and removes the evil."
THIKR
Being diligent with athkar is of extreme importance
throughout your hifth journey as Allah says,
ﻴﺖ
04
"And remember your Lord when you forget".
Your morning and evening athkar play a pivotal role in the success of
your hifth journey.
1. It creates a beautiful bond between you and Allah, and by means of
that one attains the aid of Allah, and He strengthens you.
Simultaneously, Shaytan remains far from such a person, and Shaytan is
the greatest cause of one forgetting as he has done with the
companion of Prophet Musa ﻋﻠﻴﻪ اﻟﺴﻼم.
As Allah says,
"He said: Did you see when we took refuge on the rock then I forgot
the fish, and nothing made me forget to speak of it but the
Shaytan."
2. The remembrance of Allah brings about calmness and serenity to the
heart. A tranquil heart is easily capable of firmness in memorization. As
for the one who is restless, then memorization becomes dificult for him.
Thus, an aspiring hafith or hafithah should be diligent regarding their
athkar, if solidity in it is what they desire.
05
THE HIFTH MINDSET
Now that you seek to rectify the wrongs in your hifth
journey, it is important to get yourself into the hifth
mindset, and by that I mean, for the entire duration
of your hifth journey, it should be your number one
priority above everything else, and not the other
way around, where your hifth is secondary to every
other aspect of your life and all else is given
importance over it.
SET YOUR TIMES
Once you have found yourself in the hifth mindset, you
now need to set the strict times in which you will
memorize your new portion, and which times you will
06
revise daily. For example,
5 AM : New lesson
6 PM : Revision
With setting structured timings, not only do you avoid
procrastination, you also get into the habit of reciting
daily due to doing the very same thing at the very
same time everyday. Creating extreme habit in your
daily routine Insha Allah.
STRICTNESS AND
07 CONSISTENCY
Once you have set your times, it is extremely
important that you be strict on yourself regarding
them. Take the soul to task and make jihad against
the nafs and your desire to skip your daily session.
SABR
Undoubtedly, immense patience is going to be required
through your hifth journey. Patience with yourself and your
limited abilities, patience with your teacher, patience with
your environment, patience with the obstacles which are inevitable.
08
I thus come with glad tidings for the patient ones as Allah promises in His noble
Book,
َ َ َ
ﺎب
ٍ ﺴَ ﺣ ﺮﻴْ
ِ ِ ِ ﻐ ﺑ ﻢﻫُ ﺮ
َ ْ
"Those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without
measure!"
SHUKR
09
Show immense gratitude and thanks to Allah Azza wa Jall in
every stage of your journey. As with thanks Allah had
promised increase when He Jalla wa Alaa has said,
ﻳﺪﻧ ُﻜ ْﻢ
"If you are grateful, I would certainly give to you more."
STRIVE IN THE WAY OF ALLAH
It is okay to inconvenience the soul from time to time for
the sake of Allah. As the dunya in reality is the place of
hardwork and great efforts, while only in Jannah is
complete rest and enjoyment.
10
And again Allah has promised us great good with striving to Him when He said,
"And those who strive in Our (cause), We will certainly guide them to our
Paths."

THE NIGHT BEFORE
01 Recite the new lesson 15 times by looking into
the mushaf the night before.
AFTER FAJR
Recite each verse between 7-10 times
looking into the mushaf and 5 times from the
memory.
02
Once all the verses are completed, recite
the entire lesson 5 times from the memory.
N E W R E V I S I O N
WHAT IS NEW REVISION?
01 The most
memorized.
recent lessons
Revision of the ongoing Juz. For
you have
example, you are currently memorizing
Juz 1. Everything that you have
memorized so far of Juz 1 is considered
your new revision.
HOW TO KEEP UP WITH
NEW REVISION?
Needs to be recited from the beginning
02
of the current Juz everyday.
As the amount increases, it can be
divided into manageable portions.
Should be recited daily, 2-3 times
looking into the mushaf and 2-3 times
from the memory.
R E V I S I O N
REVISION is one of the most important aspects of
your journey, if not the most important. If one
neglects their revision and forgets it, it is the
same as never memorising at all.
HOW TO STRUCTURE A REVISION
SCHEDULE WHICH WORKS?
Divide the amount of ajzaa you have over the week
by either reciting 1 juz or a half a juz daily
depending on the amount of of ajzaa you have
completed. For example, if you completed 5 ajzaa,
recite 1 Juz everyday, thus completing the entire
portion in a 5-day period.
If unable to take a full Juz daily, decrease to a half
of a Juz per day, thus completing 5 ajzaa in 10 days.
[I do not recommend to recite less than a half of a
Juz per day unless your ajzaa are extremely weak
and there is no other means but to start small.]
