Chapter I
The Problem and its Background
1.1 Introduction/Background of the Study
Study habits play an important role in the acquisition of knowledge and perceptual abilities.
Study habits reveal how much a person will learn and how far they desire to go. All of this can
be determined by one's study habits throughout one's life. As a result, it is considered that study
habits are associated with academic achievements. Students with good study habits are more
likely to: attend classes frequently and do so on time. It also assists students in completing tasks
on time, reading or preparing thoroughly for tests and exams, taking notes and developing the
topics independently, and asking pertinent questions in class; thus, having strong study habits can
help students earn higher scores. Bad study habits maintains that creating excellent study habits
in school can help students succeed in class and achieve higher grades.
The seriousness with which a student approaches his or her studies considerably influences his
or her level of academic achievements. The level of preparation and learning strategies
established and applied intentionally by students has a significant impact on their academic
achievements. Thus, one of the most important learning elements that greatly determines
students' academic achievements is study habit. Studying entails very active behavior over a
period of time. To put it another way, reading is essential for good learning. Over time, one must
compare, memorize, and test themselves.
This research paper tackles about the potential impacts of students' better study habits.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
The problems associated with study habits have a major effect on students academic
performance, it is believed that everyone has a different study habit, and it is important to find
out the best way to study. The issues with study habits may have a significant impact on students'
academic achievement. Poor academic performance is a common issue among students, and not
all of them can immediately grasp the topics that have been discussed. Good reading and study
habits must be developed by the student if they want to do well. Today's parents frequently put
pressure on their kids to perform well and retain their high marks without taking into account the
possibility that doing so can make their childrens vulnerable to instability, which is one of the
reasons why students have poor study habits. Due to the influence of the mass media, students do
not show much interest in reading books; magazines, and journals, among others. Parents and
teachers have recently voiced their displeasure with their children's lack of reading habits.
Perhaps one of the numerous problems facing students today is not their incapacity to read but
rather their lack of interest, which results in poor study attitudes, poor reading approaches, and
poor study abilities. Moreover, some students may not take notes in class, which interferes with
their ability to manage their time and study for exams or quizzes. to prevent these detrimental
consequences on students' academic performance, this study proves that , applying homework,
participating in group study, taking notes, studying with friends, having time management, and
preparing for tests are all elements that can encourage study behavior to improve students'
academic performance.
1.) How is poor academic performance a common issue among students?
2.) What are the common factors that affect the study habits of students?

1.4 Assumptions of the Study
The study on how to improve the study habits of High School students in Holy Redeemer
School of Cabuyao. The researchers believe that this study will yield the following results,
That the following are good study habits:
1. Behavior modification
We, the researchers, believe it is best to alter or adapt your habit when it comes to studying.
Think less about putting things off or about how difficult this particular subject is and how you're
just going to give up on it.
2. Takignga break
We, the researchers, believe that there is also a time for resting. Students should avoid studying
for more than an hour without a break. By doing this, they will lose their motivation in studying.
Sometimes, memorizing a lot of formulas in math and science, vocabulary words for their
English subject, and so forth will make their head ache. So it’s better to take some small breaks.
3. Taking notes
It is best for students to take notes while the teachers are discussing a lesson. This will help them
focus on class and somewhat summarize what they hear and clarify their thinking. This enhances
their comprehension and helps them recall later memories of the knowledge.
4. Organizing notes
It is best to organize your notes if you’re going to study. Through this, it will help them study
easily. So they won’t have any difficulty in studying later on.
4
5. Actively recalling information.
They should not stress themselves out with memorization. They may review the notes they need
to memorize while their classmates ask them questions in their notes. Or try to visualize their
notes by doing the “photographic memory” method.
6. Avoid studying when you’re sleepy.
It’s a bad idea to study while you’re sleepy. Their brain will be needing time to store information.
To avoid being sleepy, it is best to step out of their comfort zone. Posture is also a must; if your
body is not in a straight posture, this will also be the cause why you’re sleepy. Stay hydrated,
water helps you stay awake.
