I. MY LEARNINGS (What new inputs have you gained from the discussion- not to exceed 250
words)

A philosophy of education is a statement (or combination of statements) that identifies and

clarifies the views, values and understandings of an individual or group with respect to
education. Defined in this respect, it may be regarded of as a more-or-less ordered body of
knowledge and opinion on education, both as it is conceptualised and as it is done. A philosophy
of this nature is crucial in defining and directing the purposes, objectives and focus of a
school. It should also serve to motivate and lead educational planning, programs and
processes in every particular environment. A philosophy of education may influence what
subjects or topics are taught, how they are taught, and perhaps more importantly, the
supporting beliefs and values that are taught, both implicitly and explicitly, within and around
the core curriculum. A clear educational philosophy seeks to identify and elucidate broader,
often implicit, principles and themes that are not necessarily exemplified in a school’s textbooks
or syllabus, but are consistent with the beliefs and values that define and focus the vision and
mission.

II. MY REALIZATION (What are your insights gained out from your learnings- not to exceed 250
words)
Like other faith-based schools, we place value on the spiritual quest. An important purpose
of education is the entire and balanced development of humans, equipping them with the
wisdom to live properly. Education may be regarded vocational in the sense of preparing young
people for their calling in life, in all its aspects, so that what is taught will offer meaningful
structure and direction to their journey. The drive for greatness at Scots is a desire for human
excellence in all its dimensions. In life it is crucial to understand who you are as a person, what
you believe in and what you regard to be real. These values are important because they dictate
what you do in your life as well as how you act and react to situations that you may face.
This principle holds no less importance or worth in the profession of teaching. Who you are as a
person and what you believe in controls what you will be like as a teacher. Your philosophy as a
teacher is important because it leads to, among other aspects, exactly how you present yourself,
your material and how you develop you students.Teachers are mentors and play an active role
in inculcating independent thinking in students. However, to do that as a teacher, you must
have a teaching philosophy of your own. Students always look up to their teacher and therefore,
it becomes necessary for you to have thoughts to inspire them.

III. MY PLEDGE (what will be your action from the realization- not to exceed 500 words).
Teachers are termed as the future makers of the community. People like you are the ones who
assist students select diverse vocations and identities. A teacher can have a tremendous impression
on students and help them make independent judgments in the near future. The core values that your
students learn from you today are going to be applied and used in society as they grow up. A sound
philosophical grounding will assist ensure that these ideals are all beneficial. If you believe in
shattering stereotypes, there are significant odds your pupils will pursue the same philosophical path.
If your philosophy involves accepting the already existing theories, rather than questioning them, your
students might follow your route. Understanding the philosophy of education will educate them the
necessity to grasp the whys. Along with the intellectual development of the students, it will also
improve the standards of our society and make us more rational. By learning philosophy, a teacher
would be able to view and analyze from the perspective of their students. Apart from understanding
why students are behaving in a particular way, teachers would also be able to know how students
perceive their actions. This enables them develop better instructional tactics and advice, finally
leading in improved results. Best of all, a teacher would be able to examine his/her activities and
comprehend the benefits and negatives of their approaches. Just as if it benefits pupils, it helps them
as well. In other words, the educational curriculum consisting of philosophy contributes to finding the
mind of the learner (student), thus aid him/her in delivering experiences and possibilities for
cultivating his/her potential skills.
