A Research Proposal

On
Impact of Social Media on Young Generation
Introduction

Nowadays the younger population uses social media the most frequently. Social media
platforms like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and YouTube provide young people with a platform
for conversation and entertainment and have rapidly expanded in recent years. However, despite
the fact that social media benefits the younger population. It also has negative effects on them.
The requirements of students are met by social networking system in a variety of ways, including
by providing them with the information technology and other skills they need to stay current
with global trends in the modern era. Additionally, smart phones have a significant influence,
with social media use among students being especially prevalent. As a result, this research is
being conducted to find out how popular social media is and what effects it has on our countries
young generation.

More importantly, the research reveals that it seriously impairs young people's ability to
socialize and their right to privacy. But it must be emphasized that the research concludes that
social media also has positive effects like building relationships and social networks, sharing and
caring about other people's knowledge, and so on. In conclusion, it should be mentioned that the
younger generation's use of social media depends on how they use it, whether in a positive or
negative way.

Objective

The purpose of the study is to find out the impact of using social media on the young
generation. The specific objectives are:

I. The awareness of social media.

II. The level of utilization of social media.
III. The purpose of using social media.
IV. The level of satisfaction of social media utilization.
V. The challenges associated with the utilization of social media.
Methodology

The sources of information and data necessary for this research will encompass both
primary sources and secondary sources. My primary research will be based on a survey of the
representative sampling of the youths, who have access to internet and who use social media. As
the majority of social media consumers in our nation, college and university students have been
selected as my target audience. Additionally, I'll speak with users of social media who believe
that these platforms have somewhat affected their social lives. For this, a survey questionnaire
with 15 questions will be created, including an open-ended query and 14 multiple-choice
questions.

I will use a variety of secondary sources of knowledge to develop my secondary research.

I'll rely on websites, books, journals, articles, news articles, magazines or periodicals, online
tools, etc. as my sources.

Budget
Not Relevant since it is impossible to determine the budget accurately before the research
begins.

Timestamp

Approximately 2 years.

Literature Review

The social networking sites are nowadays playing an increasing role in people‟ s
everyday life and the use of the social networking sites has become more and more important as
a way of communicating in the last couple of years. Social networking sites like Twitter,
Facebook, YouTube and MySpace etc. have gained more and more popularity. From the social
networking sites especially the “big tree” services as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have
grown tremendously in the last couple of years. ( Ravi Prakash Singh ,2016). The growth of
social networking sites shows a significant change in the social and personal behavior of Internet
users. SNS has become an essential medium of communication and entertainment among the
young adults. Though it has started to affect the daily activities of normal human beings, the
popularity of SNS is not going to reduce in near future. Everything in this world can be used for
a bad purpose as well as for good. (Harpreet Singh And Vijay Laxmi ,2015). These social
networking sites are proving themselves a boon at least in bringing thoughts of people on these
social issues. It is also being generated from the information so obtained that people are getting
more aware about the social issues mainly from Facebook. But instead of getting this knowledge
the people generally don‟ t discuss them and if they do, they just sign off the sites after
discussion and the issue just remains focused on web only. (Madhur Raj Jain ET AL ,2012).
Expected Outcomes

All of the data and information of my research will confirm that social media will be a
significant influence on the youth of our nation. However, social media has both advantages and
disadvantages, just like any other scientific or technological innovation. Therefore, no one can be
definitively says that social media will be change our social lives in a good or negative way.
Social media will have some negative elements, but they generally do not serve as a catalyst for
the dissociation of young people.

The results of my survey will show that the majority of young people starts using social
media during their time in high school or before starting college. During this time, they begin to
meet a number of people. The main reason they opened social media profiles was to socialize.
Today's youth favor social media to keep in touch. They claim that social media is the only
medium that can interact with such a large number of people while saving them both time and
money. Additionally, the majority of young people enjoy interacting on social media with people
they will have known in the future, such as family members, acquaintances, and associates.

Conclusion

No one can deny the influence of social media. Developing relationships with people
from various backgrounds and escaping the clique mindset is extremely beneficial for young
people. A person can learn about a wide range of new perspectives, ideas, and views in the
online communities created through social media. The pulse of a college culture can be conveyed
using the event listings, organization profiles, and fan pages available on social media platforms.

The biggest benefit of social media is that it offers a platform for meeting new friends
and enables the renewal of existing ones. We should also keep in mind that social media played a
role in many public uprisings in the Middle East, however minor. On a local level, we are all
aware of how Facebook and its competitors have helped people connect, opened up business
possibilities for women, and supported artistic endeavors. A small proportion of young people
are, however, being sidetracked from their interactions in the actual world. Their social media
connections should be carefully chosen. In addition, they should remember that people won't
think less of them for not responding to a few remarks outright or for being impolite. Simply put,
it shows that a person is engaged in the actual world and has a reasonable awareness of his or her
time. As you spend time on Facebook, it's important to maintain focus on these advantages. So,
we draw the conclusion that young people typically use social media to complement rather than
replace their real-world connections.
