INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
In the Philippines, schools are offering and implementing the Senior High School
program for students (Bonggaoen et al., 2019). This program offers additional two years of
High School Education to make the students ready for the course they want to pursue in
college. According to the students, this is the hardest part of being a high school student.
There are abundant of responsibilities that they have to face and there is a lot of conflict in
senior high school, the usual problem is money because apart from being more difficult,
senior high also has high expenses, therefore it’s appropriate that a senior high school knows
how to manage their budget in different ways.
Money is the most basic requirement in life, without which, one cannot fulfil his
basic needs and requirements of the daily routine. The importance of money is increasing day
by day as the living has become so costly (Archana 2017). Money gives us a power to pursue
our dreams special if we know how to manage it. Senior High School must know how to
spend their money wisely even though there's a lot of expenses they should know how
manage and save some of their money because earning money is not that easy, majority of a
students are working while studying or what we called a working students who studying in
the day and working at night just to have an allowance and support their education.
Financial problem and poor planning can lead to a Senior High School students to
drop out because some of a student are not responsible in spending their allowance even if
they are struggling with money, still choose to spend it on useless things such as buying
things they don't need and the telling their selves that after a stressed week they deserve to
have this or that which is not the best thing to do.
Significant of the Study
The significance of this study lies in its potential to provide insights and
recommendations for teachers or educators, students, and future researchers who are
interested in this topic. This study will be significant to the following:
School administrator. This research will provide information that may help school
administrator on understanding students’ situation. This study will helps them see how
students allowance affects how well students do in school
Teachers. This study can provide insights into the challenges students may face due
to financial problem. With this understanding teachers can provide necessary support to the
student.
Students. Understanding this relationship can help them to manage their allowances
better and potentially leading to improved academic performance.
Parents. this study will assist parents in guiding their children on how to effectively
budget their allowances.
Future Researchers. This study will be serving as their existing literature or to give
them a lot of information that might help them to do their research.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to identify the possible relationship between weekly students
allowance and their academic performance which will answer the specifically answer the
following questions:
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:
1.1 Age;
1.2 Sex;
1.3 Number of siblings;
1.4 Monthly income of parents;
2. How the amounts of weekly allowance impact the academic performance of the
students?
3. Is there a significant difference between weekly allowance and the academic
performance of the student?
Scope and limitation
The study will focus on investigating the potential correlation between the allowance
of senior high school student and their academic performance at Castillejos National high
school the academic performance will be measured using the student’s grade for the 1st
grading period. The weekly allowance will be determined through survey asking about the
student’s average weekly allowance the study will only include 100 grade 12 students that
currently enrolled at Castillejos national high school year 2023-2024. The study will not
consider other factors that may affect academic performance such as study habits, family and
teaching quality furthermore the study will only use student’s grade as the sole measure of
academic performance and not consider other extracurricular activities, behaviour, and others.

FRAMEWORK OF THE STUDY
Review of Related Literature
Student budgeting essentially involves managing financial expenditures within a
given budget. A variety of factors both Technical and psychological, controllable and
uncontrollable, contribute to the diverse spending behaviours of students. One of the main
challenges students face is effectively budgeting their expenses and setting aside a portion of
their monthly allowance for unforeseen circumstances. Most students receive a monthly
allowance from their parents and are accountable to them for their spending. While a higher
family income can significantly contribute to a student’s academic performance, a lower
income should not be a justification for poor performance. (Singh et al., 2020)
Financial satisfaction is defined as a state of contentment and freedom from financial
worries. Understanding the influence of financial support on students’ lives is crucial as it can
impact their motivation to learn. (Moneva, Jumag 2020)
Indicates that students with daily allowances in school tend to have higher grades and
excel in class. The majority of students have a daily allowance of 41 or higher, and their
academic performance averages 85-89, indicating a significant relationship between parents'
socioeconomic status and students' academic performance. (Sollano et al., 2018)
Highlights the importance of allowance budgeting in students' academic performance
it found that allowance budgeting affects students' transportation, food, projects, and savings.
Students attend classes on time, have enough energy for class activities, and can save money
for future academic expenses. The study suggests that parents, teachers, and school
administrators should lead students in creating effective allowance budgeting to achieve
academic goals. It is crucial for students to be knowledgeable about allowance budgeting to
improve their academic performance. Implementing learner-driven seminars and guidelines
can help students become better equipped to handle finances effectively. (Contante ,2019)
Most of its most of the students receive their allowance in a daily basis. The
allowances are used for thier everyday consumptions and to be used for daily needs in school.
The students appear to have a peaceful thought of their financial lifestyles due to meeting
financial duties with much less level of debt. For the remaining money they have they can buy
something for their love ones and save money for future use. The budgeting technique that the
students used is a proportional type of budgeting as they allocated their allowances based on
percentage. (Mone, Tuñacao 2020)
Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework is a representation of the relationship you expect to see
between your variables or the characteristic or properties that you want to study. This study
aims to form a theory about how weekly allowance affects students’ performance in
academics. We will show how these variables are connected to each other.
Independent variable: Dependent variable:
Weekly allowance Academic
performance
Moderating variable:
Age;
Sex;
Number of siblings;
Monthly income of parents;
Hypothesis
The study will determine the effect of monthly allowance in the academic
performance of senior high school students in Castillejos National High school. Hence, it will
test the following hypothesis:
Null. There is no significant relationship between the weekly allowance and the
academic performance.
Alternative. There is significant relationship between the weekly allowance and the
academic performance.
Definition of term

provided to an individual typically on a weekly basis for personal expenses or discretionary
spending.
Academic performance: refers to a student's achievement in a formal educational
setting, such as a school, college, or university.
Profile of respondent:
Age: refers to the length of time an individual has lived since birth.

METHODOLOGY
Research Design
To study the relationship between weekly allowance and academic performance in
senior high school students at castillejos national high school the descriptive correlational
research design will be used. The descriptive correlational research design investigates
relationship between variables without the researchers controlling or manipulating any of
them. This types of research design aims to determine whether a relationship exists between
two or more variables in this case weekly allowance and academic performance.
Research Instrument
The researchers will use survey questionnaire to gather data that needed in research.
The survey will contains questions that seek to know how much the allowance of students in a
weekly and how much they spent for the daily expenses. To obtain sufficient data needed in
the study. It consist ten questions with multiple-choice type of questions survey questionnaire
are used as the research instrument that contains name, age, sex, and track or strand of the
students and mostly the questions are needed to be answered by the participants.
Data Collection
The researchers will ask permission from the principal to conduct this research study
with the help of the letter of consent signed by the teachers and the principal. The respondents
will be given a questionnaire and they will answer on the questionnaire itself. After disturbing
the questionnaire, the respondents will answer the questions given. If the respondents are
done answering the given questions, their papers will be collected and the researchers will
give their appreciation to the respondents for cooperating. The result of the collected papers
will be the researchers’ basis for the analysis, interpreting, and finding conclusion for the
study.
Data analysis
The information obtained from the research instrument will be systematically
gathered, analysed and interpreted.
To analyse the relationship between weekly allowance and academic performance we
will use the following statistic method for analysing the data in the research study:
T test: is a statistical method used to determine if there is a significant difference
between the means of two groups.
Frequency and percentage. This was used to determine the frequency counts and distibution
of students on the profile variables of age, sex, occupation of parents/guardian number of
siblings, and skills
Weighted mean. Average response and rating of senior high school student with regards to
the effect of their allowance
