Synchronization in Tally helps you to transfer data between two or more locations.
(Example: A Branch Office and the Head Office of a company reside in two different
locations). Synchronization can be done, both ways (Example: Either transfer the data
from Branch Office to Head Office, or vice-versa).
Publish reports in HTML on the Web or the Intranet and share them with your
suppliers, customers or staff.
Direct web browsing capability, from within Tally, avoids switching between programs.
Exchange data with other systems using XML. Tally gives you the means to
collaborate with others and share information like never before.
ODBC connectivity enables you to integrate Tally data dynamically into other ODBC
systems. For instance, you can design a remittance advice in Excel/Word and embed
fields from Tally like Customer name and address, account balances and so on, into the
Excel/Word format.

When you install Tally, a folder named Tally is created by default, where the program
files will reside. You can specify a different folder name, if you wish.
Pre-Installation
A note for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/XP SP2 Workstation Installations
You need to have administrator/all rights (to create, write, update, modify and
delete) on the Application, Data, Configuration and Language directory
Ensure that the Operating System you use supports Tally 9 for Multilingual support
Installing Tally
Install Tally by any one of the following methods.
Method 1:
a. Click INSTALL.EXE from the CD
(Or)
Method 2:
a. Click START from Windows
b. Select RUN
c. TYPE <CD drive>:\INSTALL
d. Press ENTER

3. Read the license agreement before you proceed. Click I Agree to continue. Click I
Decline to stop the set-up or click Back to go to the previous screen
4. In the Installation screen, you may accept the suggested directories. Else, click
Change Application Directory or Change data Directory or Change
Configuration Directory or Change Language Directory to change the
respective directory paths. Use Tab or the mouse to change the path in any of the
directories
Application Directory
The Tally program files reside in this directory.
Data Directory
The Tally data resides in this directory.
The default directory where data is stored is C:\Tally\Data. To change click on
Change Data Directory button and enter the new directory.
When Tally is installed in a directory with an earlier version, it detects and retains
the data configuration path of the previous installation.

Configuration Directory
Tally configuration files reside in this directory.
You can specify the path of the directory where the configuration files should be
saved. It is usually the same path as the Application Directory.
Language Directory
Tally Language files (.dct) reside in this directory.
You can specify the path of the directory where the Language files will be
maintained. It is usually the same path as that of the Application Directory.
Note:
If you are a Multi-License User, select the Run Tally License Server at Windows
Startup check box

Tally 9 is displayed in the Start menu as shown. The sub-menu displays Tally 9
program. It also displays Tally Help and Uninstall Tally 9.

A shortcut to Tally 9 is set up on the desktop. The Tally 9 icon is displayed in the quick
launch bar, if it is enabled.

Activating TallySilver for Single User Licensing
The Single User Licensing allows installation of Tally on ONLY ONE computer. Single
User can be activated through online or offline method.
You can activate the license using the Online option available in F12: Configure
settings.
Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Online > Activate
Tally program will connect to the Tally Internet Services server, validate your registration
information and activate the license. When you start Tally for the first time, the
Activation Form will display as shown.
On entering the correct Serial and Key, a message displays indicating that your license
is activated.
You can activate the license using the Offline option available in F12: Configure
settings. When you start Tally for the first time, the Activation Form displays. Press Esc
or Ctrl+Q to quit this form.

Now, Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Offline > Activate
The same Activation Form displays in offline mode.
If your Serial, Key and Email/Id are correct, you will get a message that your
tally_req.lic file is successfullygenerated.
Note:
If you cannot activate Tally because of connectivity issue or for any other reason,
please try again after a while. For more details on Licensing, refer Tally Online
Help

To use Tally Single user on another computer, you need to surrender the license
activated on the first computer. To do this, use the option Surrender (Go to
Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Online/Offline > Surrender)
and subsequently activate the same on a different computer

Multi User licensing allows you to install Tally on all the computers connected through a
local area network (LAN). In such a set-up, one computer is designated as the License
Server and all other computers will be License clients. The license is installed on the
License Server.
While installing Tally, select the check box Run Tally License Server at Windows
Startup (For TallyGold Users). This enables the user to start Tally when Windows
starts and run it as a service in the background on the server. You can also accomplish
the same using the following steps.
1. Double-click TallyLicServer.exe in the Tally directory, if you are using Windows 2000
and above
2. Double-click TallyLicServer.exe in the Tally directory, if you are using Windows 98
To uninstall a previously installed Multi User License , if any, click the Uninstall
button
On successful installation of Tally on the client, open Tally.ini file found in Tally directory
and set the following parameters.

Note:
To use TallyGold on another computer, you need to surrender the license activated
on the first computer. To do this, use the option Surrender ( Go to Gateway of
Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Online /Offline > Surrender) and
subsequently activate the same on a different computer

and the parameters to be set in Tally.ini file.
The License Menu in the Multi User edition has the following options.
Important:
If you desire to make any changes to your Hardware, such as Hard Disk and
Removable Storage Devices, it is recommended that you surrender the License
from your computer, before initiating these changes. Else, Tally will switch to
Educational mode.

To register Tally:
Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing
You can register Tally through the Internet using the Register Yourself button on the
right side of the Gateway of Tally screen.
You can also register your Tally by clicking on Register Yourself link at
www.tallysolutions.com
After you activate Tally offline, go to a computer that has Internet access and register
Tally through Internet at www.tallysolutions.com by clicking on the Register Yourself
link.
1. Enter the Serial number printed on the Getting Started booklet
2. Enter the Key printed on the Getting Started booklet
3. Click Login to proceed
4. The Registration screen is displayed. Enter your details in the form

The procedure for validating Tally is the same for Single and Multi User editions. The
License has to be validated within 45 days of activation and is a one - time process.
Tally will prompt you to validate the license, one week before the expiry date. If you do
not validate, Tally will switch to Educational Mode.
For an online user who has administrator privileges, Tally will validate the License and
display the License Updated Successfully message.
Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configure > Licensing > Online > Update
If you are an Offline User, Tally will display Your License is about to expire! Please
re-activate message. You will have to validate the license in a computer that has
Internet connection.
Refer to the procedure explained in the section on If you do not have an internet
connection in Activating Tally.

1. Click Uninstall Tally 9 from Start > Tally 9
Note:
You need to have administrator rights to uninstall Tally 9
If any of the Tally 9 files are running then a message is displayed ‘Couldn’t Delete
Some of the files. Exiting Uninstallation…’ Click OK. To uninstall, close the file/s
and start the uninstall procedure again

Uninstalling Tally 9
Uninstalling removes all the files created during Installation except for the Data folder
which is left intact.
On uninstallation, a Backup folder containing a Restore folder with the date and time
of uninstallation suffixed appears in the Tally folder.
The Restore_date_time folder contains the Lang folder which has the dct files and the
stat.900 file as they do not get deleted on uninstallation.
