As being the executive of the IT department, it is my duty to lead my team and ensure my
employees are working properly. It has come to my notice that my employees are facing some
issues regarding the Wi-Fi connection they have been provided with, so this is where I step in
and make decisions using the decision-making process. Firstly, I have to recognize and identify
the problem, understand what the underlying problem is. The Wi-Fi connection is not stable and
it is causing interruptions even so crashing the server. After identifying the problem, I have to
look into the decision criteria, that is I need to consider all the factors to have a good working
Wi-Fi connection, which requires right cabling, directional antennas, reliable security and
recognizing interference points. Then I will allocate weights to the criteria, in other words I
would have to put all those requirements in correct order from most to least important such as
weight of 10 means it is in the top of the list and most important, a weight of 6 would be placed
somewhere in the middle of list, meaning it is of moderate importance. For instance, having right
antenna placement is top priority for good signal. Next is developing alternatives, here I would
make a list of best internet service providers in my town, suppose a list of 10-15 internet
providers and then analyze those alternatives by selecting the highest rated or reviewed, taking
into account the price, the additional features and services that comes with it, examining all the
benefits and drawbacks of that company. Furthermore, I would have to make a decision in
selecting an alternative that is appropriate in terms of speed, signal, and coverage and most
importantly it has to be within our budget. We are approaching very close to the end of the
decision making process and in this step we implement the alternative, the ISP I chose is
AmberIT and I think it is suitable for everyone, as its provides higher megabits per second
(Mbps) which the previous ISP (Link3) failed to do so. Also, AmberIT company is promising to
provide 5G network which is another plus point and it could be extremely helpful for fellow
workers. Lastly, evaluating decision effectiveness the last step is to assess the outcome of my
decision whether it was right or not, I would reach out to all of my employees personally and ask
for their feedback, encourage them to communicate their feelings and thoughts about their
experience using the current Wi-Fi, based on their answers I would conclude my decision’s
effectiveness.
