LOG_EAM_LINEAR_1: Business Function EAM, Linear Asset Management 1

Use
As of SAP enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 (EA-APPL 605), the EAM, Linear Asset
Management 1 business function (LOG_EAM_LINEAR_1) is available.
This business function enables you to describe, display, and manage linear assets. Linear
assets are technical systems with a linear infrastructure whose condition and properties can
vary from section to section (dynamic segmentation).
Examples of linear assets include:
o Pipelines
o Roads and railway tracks
o Overhead power lines / cables
You can create linear assets as technical objects (such as functional locations and equipment)
and store linear data. You can carry out maintenance tasks for these technical objects, which
result in notifications, maintenance orders, and measurement documents, for example. This
enables you to monitor what condition your linear assets are in, identify where there is damage
or a defect (using the start point, end point, and offset), and manage all types of maintenance
tasks (planned, unplanned, and preventive).
You can enter the following information as linear data for displaying, managing, and maintaining
your linear assets:
o Start and end points, length, and unit of measurement (such as kilometers or miles)
o Information on markers (such as start and end points, the distance between a marker and
the start point, the distance betweeen a marker and the end point), and unit of
measurement
o Information on the offset (for example, horizontal or vertical offset), and units of
measurement

LOG_EAM_LINEAR_1: Linear Data in Master Data (New)
Use
As of SAP enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 (SAP_APPL 605), business function
EAM, Linear Asset Management 1 (LOG_EAM_LINEAR_1), you can create and manage linear
data for your company's linear assets in the master data of the following technical objects:
o Functional location
o Equipment
o Measuring point
To define inspections and maintenance tasks that must be carried out in your linear assets, you
can create and manage the maintenance items in maintenance plans with linear data.
Linear Reference Patterns
You can create linear reference patterns as master data. In linear reference patterns, you can
group markers that are on or alongside a linear asset. The linear reference pattern refers to
technical objects (such as functional locations). You can create linear data for each marker (for
example, start point, end point, length, and unit of measurement). When you process linear data
for functional locations, equipment, measuring points, or maintenance plans, for example, you
can use the markers as input help.
Linear reference patterns are also available as Portal content. If you want to use this content,
you must install the Business Package for Generic EAM Functions and activate the Simplified
Management of EAM Functions business function (LOG_EAM_SIMPLICITY). For more

Linear Data in Technical Object Classification
You can classify technical objects for which you have created a master record and the
necessary classes and characteristics. You can create linear data for the characteristic values.
This enables you to define the subsections of the linear technical object in which a specific
characteristic value is valid.
If you use characteristics with linear data as well as characteristics for which you have activated
Engineering Change Management (LO-ECH), you must create two classes with different class
types. You cannot create linear data for characteristic values if Engineering Change
Management is activated for the corresponding class type.

To be able to create linear data for a measuring point, you must first set the Linear
Asset indicator for the measuring point category.
In the standard system, the measuring point category L - Linear Data is available in
client 000 and can be copied to the relevant clients.
o Set View Profiles for Technical Objects
You have created view profiles for linear data.
o Define Category of Functional Location
To be able to create linear data for a functional location, you must first set the Linear
Asset indicator for the functional location category. You have assigned the view profile
for linear data to the functional location category.

Use
As of SAP enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 (SAP_APPL 605), business function
EAM, Linear Asset Management 1 (LOG_EAM_LINEAR_1), you can carry out maintenance
tasks for keeping your technical linear assets in operating order. You can create and manage
linear data in the following maintenance documents:
o In the maintenance notification or service notification, you can describe the condition
your linear asset is in, or report a malfunction and request that the damage be repaired.
o In the maintenance order or service order, you can plan maintenance tasks in detail
that are to be carried out in the linear asset and monitor the progress.
o In the operation (maintenance order, service order), you can describe each maintenance
task that is to be carried out in your linear asset.
o In the confirmation (individual time confirmation, collective time confirmation), you can
record the processing status of a maintenance order.
o In the measurement document, you can enter data that you measured at a measuring
point or read on a counter.

Use
As of SAP enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 (SAP_APPL 605), business function
EAM, Linear Asset Management 1 (LOG_EAM_LINEAR_1), you can enter linear data as
selection criteria on the selection screens of various plant maintenance reports. From the result
list, you can then call and process master data or maintenance documents with linear data.
The SAP List Viewer is available for displaying and formatting the lists with linear data. You can
store information on the column setup, sort criteria, and filter conditions in layouts.
Graphical Display of Linear Data
In some reports (transactions IL07, IE07, IW30, and IW40), you can display a graphic for linear
data from the results list. The system displays the start and end points for each highest level
object and its lower-level objects as horizontal bars. Depending on the list view, you can go
from the graphic view to the display version of the respective object.
