DEFINITION
Skimming is a reading technique that uses rapid eye movements to move quickly and find
keywords in a text. Skimming tells you what general information is in a section more time
efficient.
This capability is especially useful as a preview for detailed reading or when reviewing heavy
reading content. You can use skimming to review chapters of your textbook or to review long
readings and then decide if you need to read one section more seriously than the other. For
example, during an exam, you can quickly find the gist of the whole reading just by speed
reading. This is especially useful when you have to complete a paragraph exam without

DEFINITION
Scanning is searching for a specific information quickly in order to find the detailed
information, e.g. looking for certain words, dates, names, data, and information.
Beginning with a specific question which has specific answer.
Using key word/ clue word on the question and find it on reading text.
