2.6 Support for horizontal lines, including insulated and bare lines, shall be furnished
with pipe shoes or saddles of 100mm minimum height for easily maintenance.
For some pipe materials, such as stainless, alloy, the clamped pipe shoe shall be
used.
For sloping lines, height of pipe shoe shall be modified to keep the slope and the
minimum height of pipe shoe (HOPS) shall be 50mm.
For F.F. lines, the distance between spray nozzle and support shall be Min. 400mm
for spray cover range requirement.
Notes:
Usage of clamped shoe & welded shoe shall follow contract specification.
If there is no such specification, then follow CTCI design rule:
˙ Use clamped shoe for 2” and below pipe.
˙ Use U-bolt or SAD-H for 2” and below tubing.
˙ Welded shoe for 3” above pipe.
2.7 For vertical line support, if line is insulated or 8” above bare lines, pipe shoe support
shall be designed. U-bolt is designed for 6” and below vertical bare line.
2.8 Following table shall be used to check or modify the length of pipe shoe(LOPS)
which is sufficient for axial thermal displacements, based on operating
temperature condition** :
2.9 Axial stop is considered if the length of straight pipe is longer than 4 times the
support span. Thermal expansion loop shall be used to keep maximum
displacement less than 200mm as following table

2.20 If pump (as in-line or free-standing types) is not fixed on foundation or structure, it
is necessary to design an anchor support in upstream of pump suction nozzle and
a guide support in downstream of pump discharge nozzle.
For pipe size 6" and below, one-trunnion support is considered. For 8" and above,
two-trunnions support should be considered. The local stress shall also be checked
according to sheets D-73 & 74 of pipe support standard.
2.22 The direction of trunnion pipe shall be indicated on piping isometric drawing. For
example, mark "North dir." for one trunnion, and "N-S dir." for two trunnions.
2.23 The trunnion pipe cannot be put on platform grating directly. It shall company with
pipe shoe or saddle and the loading shall act on the existing steel beam or support
structure. (For trunnion of TYPE 42, 43, pipe shoe is NOT required.)
2.24 For TYPE-16, 61 combined with frame steel (EX. TYPE-31…) acting on existing
structure:
2.24.1 If main line size is 14” and above, pipe shoe is required to combined with
TYPE-16, 61.
2.24.2 If main line size is 12” and below, pipe shoe is not required to combined
with TYPE-16, 61.
2.25 Support cannot be put on platform grating directly. All supports shall be rested,
guided or fixed on the existing beam or support structure. If there is no structure
beam under the support, it is required to add support structures (for 8” pipe and
below) or provide information to C&B discipline and ask C&B engineer to add a
beam(for 10” pipe and larger or structure span >2000mm).
The rod size M10 shall be used for 3” pipe and below, M12 for 4” & 6”.
The rod size for 8” and larger line shall be decided according to its piping loads.
If installation length(H) is longer than 2000 mm, A turnbuckle shall be provided for
vertical adjustment after erection.
2.27 For two-phase flow line, support shall be added and closed to the location where
pipe direction changed.

D. Insert plate for concrete structure or steel structure with fireproofing
E. The above information or request shall consider the integral use and
design. For example, a stanchion can be designed to support
pipeline, cable tray, and electrical conduit at same location.
2.31 For all pipe material such as A.S., S.S., C.S., C.S. with PWHT, L.T.C.S., the
support designer has to take off the dummy pipe and reinforcing pad with the same
material as main line and mark on the ISO drawing.
2.32 Top level of a catch basin located at the low point of paving shall not be greater
than150mm below H.P.P. The call out and MTO of dummy pipe shall add 200mm
length to meet this required.(but keep the original 3D length in model)
2.33 Springs shall have a capacity that exceeds the calculated movement by a minimum
of 50%.
2.35 If base type spring loading is larger than 50000N, friction force shall be considered
in horizontal loads(use μ=0.1)
2.36 For pipeline spring support with a horizontal thermal displacement of 75 mm and
higher or a thermal cyclic piping system, use hanger type spring for support design
to reduce horizontal thermal friction force
2.37 For alignment purpose of pump with top-top of suction and discharge nozzle, when
spring support is used as the first support on the vertical pipe, the one(1) spring
design for the pipe size less and equal to 6” should be supported on top elbow of
pipe and two(2) springs for pipe size is larger or equal to 8” should be supported
from vertical pipe section.

2.38 For RFCC plant, Reactor & Regenerator are very critical equipments and should
be careful for the piping stress analysis. The load cases shall include operating,
design and short term conditions which should cover all temperature range for
Reactor & Regenerator temperature in different operating conditions.
Due to large thermal movement of Reactor & Regenerator, the first constant spring
on the connecting pipe for top nozzles of Reactor & Regenerator should consider
40% or 50mm allowance. That is Total Travel = Actual Travel x 1.4 or Actual Travel
+ 50mm ; whichever is the largest
For other constant springs(other than the spring menioned above), 20% or 25mm
allowance (whichever is the largest) should be considered.
2.39 When designing the support of the reciprocating compressor piping, the following
items must be observed to prevent piping vibration.
2.39.1 The main pipes should be arrange to locate on the ground as possible.
So they can be supported from concrete sleepers on the ground.
2.39.3 Pipe should be support near heavy piping components and disconnected
locations, such as valves, because the large mass will reduce the natural
frequency of the piping system and induce vibrating.
2.39.5 The strength and stiffness of piping support must be increase. Do not
share the support with other utility piping to avoid the vibration transfer to
other pipes.
2.39.6 The piping system should use spring supports as less as possible. Using
rigid supports can increase the rigidity of piping system and control
thermal expansion effectively.
2.39.7 The static stress analysis loading and the manufacturer’s vibration
analysis loading must be given to civil department, and remind that this
load is related to the vibration load of the reciprocating compressor, and
an independent structure with sufficient rigidity must be design to support
the piping system to prevent vibration.
2.39.8 The pulsation force caused by fluid pulsation is likely to cause vibration at
the bending location. The initial piping arrangement should minimize the
number of bends. If piping space is allowed, a rigid support should be
installed near the bend to prevent vibration. However, the flexibility of
piping system must also be considered. The extra rigid supports which

are added to prevent piping vibration due to fluid pulsation will also
increase rigidity of piping system. This is conflict with solving the problem
of thermal expansion stress. It must be adjusted to adequate supports for
both piping flexibility and pulsation analysis.

3.0 Application for Pipe Support Standard:
3.1 Type-01 is applied to pipes above 2” (including), and can be used as anchor, guide
and resting support. If this type is used for a guide support, the direction of stop
shall be shown in the last letter of support tag( A: axial stop, G: guide, F: Axial stop
& guide).

* The lower component use foundation type for 14” and above.
3.2 When using Type-01 on pipe lines of all pipe materials such as alloy, stainless
steel, carbon steel, stress relief line…etc., support designer has to inform piping
designer to add a short pipe spool at the supporting point, and the short pipe (of
the same material as main line) has to be included into piping ISO MTO. For the
size of the short pipe, please refer to the description of Type-01 sheet of “Pipe
Support Standard”.
6
2"
3.3 Type-06 is designed for supporting 2” and below pipe. It is assembled by angle
steel that extended from equipment such as drum, tank…etc. Always use Type-06
combined with pipe shoe or Type-57 for guide support.
3.4 Type-09 & 10 are adjustable supports for the purpose of adjusting pipe during
nozzle alignment. They are suitable for support of low temperature pipeline
connected to rotating equipment. Type-09 is for pipe size 2” ~ 4”, and Type-10 is
for 6” ~ 16”. If the adjustable support needs a guide simultaneously, use Type-87
and combined with pipe shoe or dummy pipe support.

If the height of support over 2500mm,Type-15 is suggested instead of Type-08,27,
because the maximum allowable height for it is up to 4000mm. Foundation is
required if using Type-15 on the ground.
3.6 When small pipe is over supporting span, and no nearby steel for support, support
Type-19 & Type-20 can be used by supporting from adjacent larger pipes.
If there are two or more pipes need be supported, as below figure, both sides need
large pipes to support together (Type-20).

The equivalent size (refer Attachment 2) also must meet at least two size no.
differential requirement.
3.6.1 C.S. bare pipe is preferred for supporting pipe(large size) and the min.
line size is 3”.
3.6.4 Before Civil pipe rack steel structure drawing IFC and piping design
information delivery deadline:
When the piping engineers design the route of 2" and below pipelines
entering or exiting the pipe rack, piping layout should be considered within
800 mm of both sides of the main beam or middle beam, and the standard
pipe support of the hanging type with L-shaped steel structure should be
designed by the piping engineers. If there are multiple pipelines extering
or exiting the pipe rack and arranged side by side and the horizontal
distance exceeds 800 mm, the loading information should be issued to
Civil engineers to design the supporting steel structures.
3.6.5 After Civil pipe rack steel structure drawing IFC and piping design
information delivery deadlines:
If the pipe route of 2" and below pipelines entering or exiting the pipe rack
are modified, and there are multiple pipelines arranged side by side and
the horizontal distance exceeds 800 mm, piping layout engineers must
actively discuss the pipe routes with piping stress engineers to design
these pipelines with special pipe support.
3.7 Type-21 is used to support 2” and below pipe. It is used for pipes above structure
and deviated from the supporting point.
3.8 Type-22 is used to support 2” and below pipe from the ground.
If the loading is large or the supported pipes are two or more, use Type-27 instead.

3.9 Type-23 is used to support 2” and below pipe. It is used for pipes under structure
and deviated from the supporting point.
3.10 Type-25 is suitable for vertical pipe, and can be combined with U-bolt or pipe shoe
support. If the loading is large, use Type-26 instead.
3.11 For Type-27 (H-shape steel)if the loading exceeds allowable value or height is over
2500mm, use Type-15 with foundation instead.
3.12 For Type-30 to Type-34, the selection of these types in whole area shall be unified.
Try to keep them all support upward or downward for consistency. These support
types can be combined with Type-51 ~ 86.
3.15 For Type-37 ~ 47, there are two angles that can be selected, 30° and 45°. The
exception is when “H” ≦1140mm/1200mm of Type-45~47, the bracing is not
required, e.g. no angle should be selected.
3.16 It is prior for Type-37 ~ 47 to choose 30° for “Ø” value, but interference may exist
between lug plates or reinforced pads as illustrated below. To avoid this problem,
use 45° instead. If the support is from vertical vessel, 45° is the first priority to
reduce shell’s local stress.
INTERFERENCE
3.17 For Type-43, the space “Q” value shall be specified (Q=OD/2 + Insulation Thk +50).
This type shall be used together with other supports, such as Type-66 and 59,
Type-53 and 59, Type-61, Type-61 and 57.
3.18 The value of DIM “H” for Type-35 ~ 36 is in the unit of 100 mm.
The value of DIM “H” for Type-37 ~ 47 is in the unit of 1 mm.
because this “H” have to be exactly matching with the location of lug plate when
installing these support types onto equipment.
3.19 For a pipe with insulation, Type-52 is used for support with guide. The upward
thermal movement of pipe must be checked. If the upward thermal movement is
under 3 mm, use Type-52. If it is between 3 and 10 mm, use Type-53. If it is greater
than 10 mm, special support shall be used.
