2. Did the Candle change when we put the fire on the candle?
3. What do we called on that process?
Activity 2
Procedures
1. Prepare the materials needed for the experiment; 1 ice cube tray, freezer and water.
2. Pour the water on the ice cube tray..
3. Place the ice cube tray in the freezer. After a few minutes (hours) remove it from the
freezer.
4. Observe and write on paper the changes that have taken place in this experiment.
Questions:
1. What happened to the ice cube tray when you put in the freezer.
2. What was the temperature when the ice cube tray was released from the freezer?
3. Do you think there has been a physical change in the water when we placed on the ice
cube tray?
4. What do we called by this process?
Activity 3
Procedures:
1. Prepare the materials needed for the experiment; Kettle/casserole, water, gas and
stove.
2. Put water in the kettle/cassrole
3. Using gas, turn the stove over medium heat.
4. Boil the water in the Kettle/Casserole
5. Observe and write on paper the changes that have taken place in this experiment.
Questions:
1. What happened when the fire lit the stove and put on the Kettle/Casserole with water
on it?
2. What is the temperature of the water?
3. What do we called on that process?
Activity 4
Procedures:
1. Prepare the materials needed for the experiment; 2 Glass/plastic cups, cold water and
Hot Water.
2. Fill the 2 glass with cold and hot water seseperate.
3. Observe and write on paper the changes that have taken place in this experiment.
Questions:
1. What happened when the Glass/cup when we put the water on it?
2. Does the temperature of the water changed?
3. What do we called on this process of changing experiment?
EXPLAIN
In these activities, it explains the changes in materials when heat or cooled is
applied to solid, liquid and gas. To better understand the lesson, here are some of the
important information in this lesson.
Matter can change from one state to another based temperature changes.
The thermometer is a device that measures the temperature of an object. It can be
increased or decrease. High temperature will indicates hotness while the low
temperature indicates coldness.
Melting (or liquefaction) is a process that causes a substance to change from solid
to liquid. When the heat is added, the temperature will increase an object will melt.
Melting happens when the increasing temperature of the material.
An example of this is the activity 1, where we light a candle with match sticks. The candle
starts to melted and gradually deminished because of the fire came from the match/lighter. So,
the solid candle turn into liquid.
Freezing is a transition where a liquid turns into solid when its temperature is
lowered its freezing point. The phase changes when the temperature of the material
decreases. Liquids can be changed into solid by freezing. The decreasing temperature
happens when the material is freezing.
Activity 2 is one example of freezing. When we put the water on the ice cube tray and put it in
the freezer after a few hours the water will freeze. From water, it became solid. Due to the
low temperature of the freezer it is formed if the temperature is high it will melt.
Boiling is defined as a phase transition, generally occurring when a liquid is heated
to its boiling point, from the liquid state to the gas state. The vapor pressure of the
liquid is the same at the boiling point as the external pressure acting on its surface.
When heat is added, the temperature increases and an object will boil.
The example of boiling is the activity 3. When the fire is lit with the stove, there is a change
in the appearance and temperature of the kettle. The temperature of the water in the kettle
increases due to the heat coming from the stove. The smoke coming from the kettle is a gas
and the water is liquid it becomes gas due to the heat coming from the stove. Because water
or liquid becomes smoke or gas where this process is called boiling!
Condensation is what happens when water vapor changes from a gaseous to a
liquid state. As warm air cools, the molecules in the water vapor move closer together,
and the vapor becomes liquid. In the opposite process, evaporation, water molecules
separate and move apart, turning liquid water back into gaseous form.
An example of condensation is activity 4. Due to the moist water coming from cold
water and hot water, moisture gets into its containers due to the temperature coming
from these materials. When the glasses that hold the materials we use get moisture, tiny
droplets come out of it.
Elaborate
Ask students to Draw an example of Melting, Freezing, Boiling and Condensation in a
paper. Present it to the class.
