Y-Delta to Delta-Y Conversion Guide

The document discusses equivalent delta (Δ) and star (Y) resistor networks. It shows that any delta network can be replaced by an equivalent star network and vice versa using the following transformations: 1) A delta network of resistors R1, R2, R3 can be replaced by a star network with resistances R12 = R2R3/(R1+R2+R3), R23 = R3R1/(R1+R2+R3), and R31 = R1R2/(R1+R2+R3). 2) A star network of resistors R12, R23, R31 can be replaced by a delta network with resistances R

6 EQUIVALENT DELTA (  ) AND STAR (Y) SYSTEMS

The solution, by means of Kirchhoff’s Laws of electric networks having a considerable number of elements or branches
may become much involved owing to the large number of simultaneous equations which must be solved. In many cases such
networks may be reduced to a very simple circuit by successively replacing delta meshes with star systems, and vice versa. So far as
the respective three terminals are concerned, any delta system of passive resistors may be replaced by an equivalent three terminals or
Y-system. In similar manner the three-terminal star system may be replaced by an equivalent delta system.
