Specimen Nature: HYSTERECTOMY WITH BILATERAL OOPHORECTOMY, OMENTECTOMY
Specimen Site: OVARIES AND UTERUS, OMENTUM
History: Case of carcinoma ovary, bilateral cystic ovaries and small pedunculated nodules, ascites fluid, adhesion
gut wall and urinary bladder.
Gross: SPECIMEN #1 (OVARIES AND UTERUS):
Specimen container is labeled with the patient's name and medical record number and labeled as 1.
Received in formalin is a hysterectomy specimen with both ovaries and a cystic tissue piece separately
present in container.
- Procedure: Hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy
- Summary Of Gross (on serial slicing):
- Ectocervix: Smooth and shiny
- There is a polyp in endometrium cavity attached with endometrium measures 30 mm. Cut surface shows
no fibroid
- Measurement:
- Uterus: 69 x 40 x 19 mm
- Thickness of endometrium: 1 mm
- Smaller ovarian cyst measures 51 x 40 x 29 mm. Capsule is intact. No surface deposit and growth is
seen. Serial slicing reveals solid and cystic components 50% cystic and 50% solid components. Inner
surface of the cystic component shows papillary projections and solid area is grey brown in color.
- Larger ovarian cyst measures 67 x 50 x 30 mm. Capsule is intact. No surface deposit and growth is
seen. On opening shows uniloculated cyst filled with brownish fluid and inner lining shows papillary
growth measures 40 x 30 mm. Cystic fragment measures 50 x 30 x 2 mm. Cut surface is grossly
unremarkable.
Representative sections are taken and submitted as follows:-
A&B) Anterior and posterior cervix; C) Section of endomyometrium with polyp; D) Section from the full
thickness of endomyometrium; E) A polyp entirely submitted; F-J) Section from the smaller ovarian cyst;
K-N) Section from the larger ovarian cyst; P) Section from the cystic tissue fragment separately present in
container.
SPECIMEN #2 (OMENTUM):
Specimen container is labeled with the patient's name and medical record number and labeled as 2.
Received in formalin is an omentum tissue fragment measures 19 x 16 x 9 mm. Cut surface shows
nodules, largest measuring 1.9 cm. The entire specimen is submitted in two blocks (A&B).
