Abstract
This study determined the impact of technology advancement to the students
of Lambusan National High School. The result of the study served as the basis of what’s
the impact of technology advancement to the students. This study sought to the
following problems; the profile of the students, the impact of technology advancement to
the students and lastly, the influence of technology to the students.
The study will use qualitative methods and conduct an interview through giving
survey questions and survey interview based on their experiences. The study has a
total of 40 respondents who were the participants to this study. In accordance of the
findings of the study, it was recommended that the parents must be responsible in
guiding their child. In other hand, the students also should be aware of what’s the
disadvantages of technology and how does it affect to their lives.
Rationale of the Study
In our world today, everything is more convenient and accessible due to the
advances of technology. However despite how convenient the technology is, there will
be some disadvantages accompanying. Technology is one of the most valuable tools.
The more advanced technology in our society influenced to every individual in different
aspects of lives. We couldn’t deny that technology is a specialized aspects of our lives.
But, we should think first the influence of this to our lives especially to the students it
can be a hindrance to them in the fields of education. The abundance of technology in
the schools is hindering every student’s mind to have the ability to think as well as learn
old style methods of learning. In other hand, it is also beneficial to them to have a
progressive learning. But we should put this in our mind that everything has a limitations
and by using of technology we must consider also our limits. Technology has been
argued as having a positive impact on our way of thinking. Steve Johnson (2005), in his
nationally bestselling book Everything Bad is Good for You, posited that technology is
making us more intelligent due to means of obtaining, interpreting, and processing
information. Many studies have discussed how technology affects our brains and
impacts how much its use affects the way that we think and perform. Today there is a
common focus on raising student achievement while integrating the technology as a
tool. Due to large use of technology in the world in which we live, the use of technology
in teaching and learning is essential if we are to make a lasting impact on how students
learn (Cristine,2009). Many students mistakenly believe that technology allows them to
do several things at once and do them well (Bouchard). Technology has also begun to
change the roles of teachers and learners. Technology is a powerful tool that can
support and transform education in many ways, from making it easier for teachers to
create instructional materials to enabling new ways for people to learn and work
together. Technology in education plays an important role in improving the educational
skills and knowledge of the people. This is very important especially those who need to
improve their knowledge in order to them to achieve a successful life in the future.
Technology in education is manifested through the use of computers. This is also a
great help for teachers since they can already enhance their teaching skills and
strategies every time they are facing their class. Technology is very essential for both
the students and teachers but there are some instances wherein this technology is seen
to be disadvantages for both of them as well (occupytheory.org/advantages).
Theoretical Background of the Study
Cognitive Theory concerns those mental processes that cannot be observed through
human beings’ problem solving process and human beings’ learning strategies. It’s
studies human brain thinking process. In education cognitive theory is to develop
students’ capabilities of creative thinking, of information analyzing, and problem-solving
through computer-assisted instruction. This theory is presented by Jane Piaget (1898-
1980), Jerome Seymour Bruner (1915-) and David P. Ausubel (1918-2008).
Constructivism Theory emphasizes that good and real learning information is not
based on what the instructors says or the learners’ heard even if the learners’ repeating
this information over and over. In addition, the constructivism theory emphasize that
learners’ construct and built the information inside their mind based on their experiences
to build knowledge , which effecting the learning processing. It is in favor the letting the
students’ to construct their point of view of the world, philosophy of living, technical
expertise, and knowledge structures. This theory is presented by John Dewey (1859-
1952), Lev Vygotsky (1896-1934), Jean Piaget (1896-1980).The influence of
constructivism on the development of educational technology in schools was mainly in
late 20th century on the multimedia applications, online interactive learning and today’s
rapid emerging mobilization and handheld electronic devices which provide an
instructional platform on which students can self-control learning contents, activities and
progress without restrictions of time and space (Whelan 2005).
Symbol System Theory is proposed by Gavriel Saloman, an educational psychologists
to explain the different media influences on learning. Saloman believes different media
symbols systems impact media information delivery and learning effectiveness. The
core of the symbol system theory is that whether a media can effectively help effective
learning depends on the degree of matching between the symbol systems and learners’
learning contents and activities. Symbol system theory has laid a theoretical foundation
for the development and application of multi-media computation.

Review of Related Literature
Information of technology probably has a lot to do with the growing importance
of small organizations. With computers so inexpensive, and with the ability to connect
powerful microcomputers to national and international communication networks, it
becomes possible for even small businesses to reach very large markets, even
international markets.
In 1931, on the occasion of Maxwell’s centenary , Albert Einstein observed. At least as
perplexing were the implication of two other towering achievements of 20 th century
physics Einstein’s theory of special relativity discredited the time – honored , seemingly
unimpeachable notions of absolute space ,time ,and ,mass. Some writers contend that
20th century electronic media are contributing to the erosion of valiable traditional
dividing line between childhood and adulthood. Books vary greatly in syntactical and
lexical complexity , a feature long utilized in attempting to keep children from premature
exposure to certain kinds og highly charged , potentially disturbing knowledge. Unlike
books, however , television does not possess any formal grammatical prerequisites that
must be mastered prior to gaining access to the material it offers; hence that material is
relatively equally accessible to adults and children. Children may not be able to read
and grasp books suitable for adults but they can watch television programs with “adult”
subject matter. If, by affording differential access to sensitive subject matter ,print media
helped sustain the line between childhood and adulthood , the electronic media seem to
be eroding that distinction ,a development of uncertain psychological significance
( Fouts,J.T.(2000). This growth in awareness of advances of science and technology
was linked to the proliferation of books around this time, a development in turn
attributable to the invention of the movable –type printing press. On this point, see
Elizabeth Eisenstein , the Printing Press as an Agent of Change(Cambridge: Cambridge
University Press, 1979). Technology also increases student collaboration. Collaboration
is a highly effective tool for learning. Students cooperately works together to either
create projects or they can learn from each other by reading the work of of their
peers(Keser, Huseyin, & Ozdamli, 2011). A study conducted by Baytak Tarman, & Ayas
found that most students believe that their learning is improved by integrating
technology into classroom curriculum. Students participating in the study reported that
using technology in school makes learning fun and helps them learn more ( Baytak,
Tarman, & Ayas, 2011).

boredom as well as it gives entertainment and fun to them.
4. Some says that technology is a source of life specifically communication to others
using social media.
5.Some students uttered that using book is quiet different from gadgets. In books you
can gather or look for information based on its contents, but in terms of using gadgets in
learning you can usually gather more information or different information. In studying
you can absolutely focus when using books rather than using gadgets in learning. But
others disagreed because for them books is boring whereas gadgets is interesting.
Conclusion
The researchers concluded that technology is now part of our lives, but there
are some instances wherein this technology is seen to be disadvantages. It has been
proven that technology for the students nowadays promotes independent learning,
easier access to information and lastly promotes exciting way to educate students.
