Answer all the questions

1. Calculate the volume of capillary pores for 100 g of cement of w/c 0.35. Assume 100%
hydration and no drying. CO1 (5 marks)
2. Design a Concrete Mix for R.C.C Beam by IS Method with the following design
stipulations and material characteristics given below: CO2 (10 marks)
Characteristic 28 days compressive strength 85 MPa
MSA 10 mm
Degree of workability (Slump) 100 mm
Cement type OPC 53 grade
Silicafume is used with specific gravity of 2.2, its replacement level is
7.5% by weight of cement
Specific gravity of cement, C.A and crushed stone 3.14, 2.75 and 2.63
sand.
Fineness Modulus of sand. 2.78, Zone I
Super plasticizer – 0.9% by weight of cm Sp. Gravity – 1.08
Free Moisture & Absorption in sand. Nil & 0.9% resp.
Water absorption in C.A. 0.15%
Environmental Exposure Condition Severe
Degree of Supervision Good
Assume necessary data whichever is missing
3. Calculate the maturity of concrete using Sadgrove equation; CO3 (5 marks)
