Test II Essay
1. Discuss why ethics is important in business.
The study of Business Ethics provides the foundation for a shared understanding of the
underlying concept of what is good and wrong in human behavior. People, particularly
businesspeople, will develop their own moral standards, moral regulations, and moral principles
if ethics is not practiced. This would lead to a type of subjective morality, in which what is good
for one person may be wrong for another. Another essential component of business that requires
further investigation is how company leaders and managers deal with ethical difficulties and
problems that disrupt the flow and vitality of business operations. One remarkable development
in today's business world is the use of quantitative approaches to assess a company's viability and
profitability.
2. Refute the businessman’s myth that “ethics has no place at all in business.”
It is a naïve view of the link between ethics and business to claim that business is an
activity that is independent of morality. Because business is a component of human society, and
its actions operate within the framework of people's ideas and value systems, it must be regarded
and examined from an ethical standpoint. Any economic activity that is lacking in morality will
cause more harm than good to individuals and society as a whole. Furthermore, believing that
ethics and business do not mix will only explain criminal conduct and, most likely, promote
questionable commercial practices. Ethics is undeniably crucial in the corporate world.

3. Explain the phrase: “Not all that is legal is moral, but what is moral is worth legalizing.”
When something is legal, it is not always moral; in fact, there are numerous instances
where this is the case. If someone desires an abortion, for example, they have the right to do so
because it is lawful in another country. This does not, however, imply that it is the proper or
moral thing to do.

4. Define Business Ethics. What is your own personal definition of Business Ethics?
The application of ethical values to business behavior is known as business ethics.
Individuals' behavior and the behavior of the organization as a whole are both affected by
business ethics.

5. Explain the phrase: “Ethics is the unwritten law written in the hearts of men.”
In essence, rules impose the behaviors we are required to follow, whereas ethics suggests
what we should do and guides us through the process of exploring possibilities to better our
decision-making. Ethical decision-making stems from a person's moral compass and desire to
maintain self-respect.
