of marking.
D. Description

(1) The engine rotating components listed in the Life Service Tables 1, 2, 3 and 4 are
subject to low−cycle fatigue due to cyclic operation of the engine. As a result, these
parts must be replaced when the cycle limit is reached.

(2) Airworthiness regulations require the operator to log engine hours, engine starts
and aircraft flights. It is the responsibility of the operator to calculate and record
these hours and life limiting cycles.

(3) For the purpose of Accumulated Total Cycle Calculation:

v A flight is each time the helicopter performs the following mission:

Ground−Air−Ground, it is logged as one flight;
v A full cycle is an engine start followed by one flight then by a shut−down.
v A start is an engine start followed by one or more flights.
v A Flight Count Factor is a multiplying factor that can be used to credit or debit life
to the components listed in the Life Service Tables to reflect the aircraft
application of the engine. This factor can also be specific to an operator that
diverges from the standards as missions described in step (5).
v An abbreviated cycle is an engine start followed by multiple flights and one
shut−down (i.e. abbreviated cycles are equivalent to the number of flights minus
the number of starts). An abbreviated cycle is less severe than a full cycle.
v An extended cycle factor is a ratio that debits life on components for each time a
contingency rating is logged in the engine logbook regardless of All Engine
Operative (AEO) or One Engine Inoperative (OEI) condition. Contingency ratings
refer to any of the following:

v 2 1/2 minutes OEI rating

v 30 minute OEI rating

v Continuous OEI rating

(4) In the case of the PT6T-3B/-3BE/-3BF/-3BG/-6/-6B/-3D/-3DE/-3DF power section

occasional use may be made of the contingency ratings. Each use of the contingency
rating results in the additional accumulation of an extended cycle, defined as:
idle - contingency rating - idle. The limits specified in Paragraph 3, Tables 1, 2, and
3 are in terms of full cycles. Accumulated abbreviated cycles (and, where
applicable, extended cycles) are summated in terms of full cycles by means of a
formula and tabulated factors.

(5) When engine starts are not recorded, each flight is considered to have been
preceded by one start (i.e. each flight is equivalent to a full cycle).

(6) Operators having missions which include many touch−and−go flights, external load
operation, frequency of scheduled in−flight shutdowns (such as used within training
missions) or which include 10 flights per hour or more, must submit their mission
profiles to Pratt & Whitney Canada Inc. for life cycle analysis.

E. Compliance

Pratt & Whitney Canada recommends that Compliance conforms to the requirements of
the Accomplishment Instructions.

F. Approval

Transport Canada has reviewed and approved the technical contents of this Service
Bulletin.

NOTE: This Service Bulletin is incorporated by reference in one or more Transport

Canada, Aircraft Engine Type Approvals and the service lives thereby constitute
limits applicable to the corresponding engines. The specified service lives
apply to engines, modules and components which embody only parts listed in
the Transport Canada approved parts list, as promulgated in the applicable
Illustrated Parts Catalog and Service Bulletins. Operators requiring approval for
incorporation of parts not listed will be required to substantiate to their local
Airworthiness Authority the applicability of the lives of the substitute parts and
associated parts and assemblies.

3. Accomplishment Instructions

A. For Engines PT6T-3, -3B, -3BE, -3BF, -3BG, -3D, -3DE, -3DF, -6 and -6B:

(1) Accumulated total cycles and all flights, engine starts, contingency rating excursions
if applicable, and hours must be recorded in the appropriate engine log book.

(2) At repair or overhaul, rotor components removed for repair must be suitably tagged,
stating the total number of flights, engine starts, contingency rating excursions if
applicable and/or the calculated total cycles, per Paragraph 3.B., Life Determination.

(3) Components with accumulated total cycles or hours, as applicable greater than the
limits shown in Table 1 (PT6T−3), Table 2 (PT6T−3B/−3BE/−3BF/−3BG/−6/−6B) or
Table 3 (PT6T−3D/−3DE/−3DF), or components not supported with proper
documentation, are to be removed from service.

NOTE: The practice of marking life limited parts with the accumulated cycle count
is no longer required. The accumulated cycle count previously marked on
parts alone is not considered sufficient supporting documentation.
