Writing Alternative Ending Rubric

This document provides a rubric for evaluating student writing assignments where they are asked to write alternative endings to stories. The rubric assesses the writing on several criteria including resolution, characters, conventions, style, and format. For each criteria, performance levels are defined on a scale from above expectations to attempted expectations. The highest level is awarded 5 points and describes a resolution that is creative and engaging, characters that are true to their roles, strong spelling and grammar, and more. Lower levels have fewer points and describe less developed resolutions, inconsistencies between characters, more errors, and other issues.
