Poetry 1

Poetry is the use of words to express ideas and feelings. A poet is the person who writes poetry. A stanza is a group of lines in a poem that have the same idea. Personification gives a non-human thing human qualities. A metaphor compares two unlike things without using like or as. A simile compares two things using like or as. A rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhyming sounds at the end of lines. Repetition involves saying the same thing again. A contrast shows opposites. Alliteration repeats initial consonant sounds. Assonance repeats similar vowel sounds. Consonance repeats similar consonant sounds.
