RRL in Importance of OJT

The rapid evolution of the hospitality industry necessitates continuous learning and skill
development. Research by Quinones and Ford (2020) suggests that on-the-job training enables
employees to stay updated with industry trends, adapt to new technologies, and provide
contemporary services.
A well-trained staff can significantly impact guest satisfaction and loyalty. Dube and
Nhamo (2019) found that guests are more likely to return and recommend a hotel or restaurant
where they have received exceptional service, which is often a result of effective on-the-job
training.
On-the-job training can also contribute to employee job satisfaction. A study by Cheng
and Duan (2019) found that employees who receive adequate training are more likely to feel
confident in their roles and experience higher job satisfaction.

RRS in Importance of OJT

Lin and Anantharajah (2019) suggested that universities should build linkages with the industry
where interaction between industry representatives and students are made through roadshows,
talks and seminars. This process will help to manage students’ expectations toward the labour
market and industry, and to avoid them from being disappointed and demotivated throughout
their internship program. At the same time, it could help employers to understand what students
are looking for in their internship experience and employment as a whole.
These pillars of practical experience have long served as the base model for creating
meaningful experiences that combine both academic learning and on the job training and
supervision. The experiential learning activity of internships has been established as a vital
component of higher education programs (Zopiatis, et. al., 2021)
Hospitality and tourism internships critically develop students’ workplace skills, which are
essention to employment in this work domain (Bilsand, et. al, 2020).
In summary, hospitality and tourism internships are instrumental in preparing students for
employment in this industry by providing practical experience, skill development, networking
opportunities, and a deeper understanding of the field. These internships play a critical role in
bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, making graduates
more competitive and better prepared for their careers in hospitality and tourism.
