Specific External Environmental Factors

Specific Environment Factors is one of the components of the External Environment. Specific factors can
affect an organization and its external environment performance. These factors have a direct impact on
IUB as an organization. IUB operates as a private university in the Bangladesh education system. The
Specific Environment of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) includes the following components:

1.Customers: Independent University, Bangladesh or also known as IUB is an educational organization

whose most important customers are its students. IUB has around 12,000 students enrolled in
undergraduate and graduate levels combined. If so many students were not enrolled in IUB, IUB would
not be where it is right now, which is ranking 3rd among other educational institutes in Bangladesh. The
number of students coming into IUB can affect the amount of budget allocated to the enrollment process
and also increase the revenue for IUB. This could lead to IUB being able to expand even more to
welcome future students resulting in the public having a more positive perception of IUB as an
organization.
2.Competitors: One of the biggest competitors of IUB is BRACU or also known as Brac University.
BRACU is one of the biggest private universities in Bangladesh and became bigger with its new campus.
Their new campus is now their permanent campus located in Badda, Dhaka, with a 13-story building with
3 basements, an auditorium, a multipurpose hall, rooftop playground, and much more facilities. Brac
already has a stellar reputation due to its history, attracting students all over the country. Now with a
bigger and better campus, Brac will be able to attract a lot of students, including those who might have
considered IUB. The effect that Brac’s new campus will have on IUB will definitely be negative. If IUB
is unable to attract students for new semesters, the organization will be in trouble, especially when not
being able to answer the board of directors.
3.Pressure groups: One of the pressure groups that could influence IUB could be the University Grants
Commission of Bangladesh or UGC. According to their website, there are about 9 faculties of IUB that
are UGC approved, for example, the faculty of law. Pressure groups like UGC pressurize private
universities like IUB to maintain the approved faculties strictly. And IUB may not be able to have any
other faculties even if it meant expanding their horizons, because the UGC might not approve.
4.Suppliers: One of the suppliers for IUB could be the suppliers for the IT equipment required for
different sponsored research programme. There is a file in pdf format that can be accessed through the
internet on IUB’s website. The file contains a list of terms and conditions for the suppliers, like, there will
be no provision for advance payment and the payment will be made through an account payee cheque
within 30 days from the date of the bill’s receipt and lastly, the bill will include a copy of work order. If
the supplier does not accept the payment through an account check then IUB will not be able to pay the
suppliers and end up not getting necessary IT equipment in times of need.
