Job Title:
Corporate Marketing Director
Reporting line:
The Corporate Marketing Director will report to the Commercial Director CNET Networks
Business, and have a dotted reporting line to UK Group MD CNET Networks UK.
Direct Reports:
Designer/Producer ETF and Marketing Executive
Internal working relationships:
This is a central role; therefore the Marketing Director will be working across all areas of the
business, however primarily with the Executive team, local brand owners and the Marketing team.
Mission:
The Marketing Director’s ultimate aim is to raise the profile of the CNET Networks brand to the
media and technology industries. They will do this by driving the development and
implementation of all marketing strategies and campaigns for CNET Networks.
They will also be involved in the planning and strategy of CNET’s business and consumer
products, with 100% ownership for leading and driving the strategic planning and delivery of
CNET’s events and conferences to add brand value and drive delegate attendance.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
Corporate Marketing:
To develop an appropriate media mix to achieve results including, but not exclusively:
• PR – including both generating press coverage and raising the profile of CNET Networks
UK by gaining speaker slots for key staff on appropriate conferences and forums
• Developing thought-leadership and face-to-face programs with key customers
• Corporate hospitality and entertainment
• Direct mail and sales promotion
Media Brands:
With a consultative approach, guide, coach and partner with existing Marketing Manager and
brand owners, on all marketing strategies and campaigns for business and consumer products.
Event marketing:
Manage the conference and awards development programs. For each event, work with the
operations, programme and sales teams to initiate the event planning process to develop
marketing strategy and plan, specifically:
• Identify key audiences and core messages
• Agree overall event positioning and tone of voice
• Understanding competitive landscape
Manage the effective implementation and evaluation of the marketing plan including:
• Writing compelling and clear design briefs that clearly define requirements to production /
design department
• Appraise creative and design work constructively to produce effective communications
• The creation and development of strong promotional and advertising copy
• Identify research requirements and make recommendations to Commercial Director –
how can we improve our product offering and communications?
Management responsibilities:
• Line manage a team of 2-3 people
• Responsible for setting strategy, driving the team, and leading from the front.
• Responsible for motivating team members and working with them to establish clear goals
and objectives in line with the company’s vision.
• Responsible for the performance management of the team, including annual performance
review and development plans.
Education and Qualification required:
Degree educated, preferably in business or marketing.
Experienced required:
• Minimum of 5 years working as senior Marketing Manager or 1 year as Marketing
Director within preferably the online media sector, however experience within, technology
or events sector is of interest but less critical.
• Experienced in developing and delivering multi-channel marketing strategies and
campaigns.
• Able to develop strong creative solutions both via internal & external departments
(design, creative departments) and through own efforts.
• Able to create and deliver compelling presentations to communicate ideas and strategies
to internal colleagues.
• A good knowledge of research techniques and processes and the interpretation of
results.
• Experienced in evaluating campaigns and identifying key learning.
• Liaison and management of external suppliers and third party relations, including
partnerships and alliances.
• Proven experience in building the right relationships quickly, getting through the door,
selling the right story at the right place at the right time to increase brand presence in the
online technology market.
