1 year older, each EE 6 years and each ME 7 years older, their
average age would have been greater by 5 years. Find the number of

5. In 1930, the following question was proposed: A man's age at


death was one twenty-ninth of the year of his birth. How old was he
in the year 1900?

6. When I am as old as my father is now, I shall be five times as


old as my daughter is now. By then my daughter will be eight years
older than I am now. The combined ages of my father and myself are
100 years. How old is my daughter now?

7. A year ago, Eze got a crush with Dane, where the product of
their ages was 156. Fortunately, they are now both sweethearts; and
they plan to marry 12 years after, where the product of their ages
will be 650. Knowing that Dane is older than Eze, find the present
age of Eze.

8. A policeman is pursuing a snatcher who is ahead by 72 of his


own leaps. The snatcher takes 6 leaps while the cop takes 5 leaps,
but 4 leaps of the snatcher are as long as 3 leaps of the cop. How
many leaps will the cop make before he catches the snatcher?

10. A battleship started on a 500-mile voyage but was brought to


full stop an hour after starting for military reasons, delaying it
for full hour, after which it was ordered to proceed at a reduced
velocity equivalent to 75% of its former rate. The ship arrived at
its destination 3 hours and 3 quarters after scheduled time. If it
was desired for the ship to arrive one hour and a quarter sooner,
how far from the destination should the ship have been ordered
stopped?

11. Find the sum of the coefficients of the expansion (x + 2)4.

12. Working together, observation planes A, B and C can map a


certain region in three hours. After working for one hour, A
developed engine trouble and had to stop. As a consequence, B and C
had to continue working for the next four hours to complete the job.
It turned out however that half of the photographs taken by A were
spoiled. The following day, C was sent to photograph that part of
the region for which A’s photographs were spoiled. It took C one and
a half hours to complete the task. How long will it take each plane
to map the region alone?

13. A businessman left his office for an appointment and noticed


the hands of the wall clock at past 8 o’clock. After more than two
hours he returned and noticed that the hands of the clock were
interchanged. At what time did he leave and at what time did he
return?

14. When looking at two buildings at the same time, the length of
the buildings’ shadows, s, varies directly as their height, h. If a
5-story building has a 20 m long shadow, how many stories high would
a building that has a 32 m long shadow be?

15. A small boy was assisted by his older brother to ride a swing
in the park. His brother made his first swing to pass through an arc
of 18 m. With each swing, the small boy passes through an arc 2/3
of the length of arc of the previous swing. What is the total
distance the small boy travelled when he waited for the swing to

1. Determine the amplitude, period and phase shift of the
function:

2. An airplane starts to take off when it is 240 m away from a


wall at the end of the runway which is 12 m high. If the plane takes
off at an angle of 8o, by what vertical distance will it clear the
wall?

3. Points A and B 1000 m apart are plotted on a straight highway


running East and West. From A, tower C is 32o N of W and from B,
tower C is 26o N of E. Compute the shortest distance of tower C to
the highway.

4. The side of a mountain slopes upward at an angle of 21014’. At


a point on the mountain side, a mine tunnel is constructed at an
angle of 15027’ downward from the horizontal. Find the vertical
distance to the surface of the mountain from a point 250 meters down
the tunnel.

5. The obelisk of a certain Rizal monument rises to some height


above its dais; the angles of elevation of the top and bottom of the
obelisk from two stations A and B on the same horizontal plane as
the base of the dais are 450 and 300 respectively. The corresponding
horizontal angles to the common center of both dais and obelisk from
the ends of the base line AB 25 meters long are 750 and 600

6. A piece of property in downtown Houston is advertised for sale


at Php45 per square foot. If the lengths of the sides of the

3. The strength of a rectangular beam varies directly to the
