CM1312series Notable PrintSpeed Verbal Use

The document discusses factors that determine the print speed of the HP LaserJet CM1312MFP printer, including formatting time, color mode, media size, media type, and printer temperature. Print speed is reduced for legal paper, narrow paper, glossy media, and when the printer gets too hot to prevent damage.

Print Speeds

What is it?

The print speed, or throughput, is a measure of the number of pages that can be printed with the
device in one minute. The throughput can change as the result of different engine process
speeds or due to pauses inserted between pages. There are several factors which determine the
actual throughput of the device and include: formatting time, color mode, media size, media
mode, and printer temperature.

How does it work?

Formatting Time
The printer must wait for each page to be formatted before it can be printed.
Complex pages take more time to be formatted resulting in reduced throughput.
However, many jobs can be printed at full engine speed.

Color Mode*
The maximum print speed depends on whether the page is printed in monochrome
(black only) or full color mode. For monochrome printing the maximum print
speed is 12 ppm (pages per minute) and for color printing it is 8 ppm.

Media Size*
The maximum engine speed is less for legal media and narrow media (<184mm).
Legal media has reduced throughput since it is longer than the standard letter/A4
media size. Narrow media has reduced throughput to prevent the edges of the
fuser from overheating. The throughput reductions occur by adding incremental
pauses in steps from the 6th, 11th, 21st, and finally the 51st page.

Media Mode*
The process speed for certain media types is reduced to maximize the print quality
performance (fixing, gloss, offset, etc.) on that media. Typically the glossy, heavy,
and specialty media (envelopes, photos, etc.) require slower modes. These modes
are selected by choosing the proper media type from the printer driver.

Printer Temperature**
To prevent damage to the printer due to overheating throughput is reduced once a
predetermined internal temperature limit is reached. The starting printer
temperature, ambient environment temperature, and job size all contribute to the
number of pages that can be printed before the throughput is limited. The thermal
slow down mode limits throughput by printing 4 pages and then pausing for an
amount of time based on the ambient temperature.

Miscellaneous Pauses
In addition to the previously mentioned throughput factors there are other printer
processes which occur periodically and can have an effective impact on
throughput, especially for large print jobs:
1. ITB cleaning sequence and lubrication. Occurs every 50-80 pages and
takes ~60 seconds.
2. CPR control sequence. Occurs every 450 pages and takes ~90 seconds.
3. Density control sequence. Occurs every 150 pages and takes ~120
seconds.
