Today class, I am going to group you
into two. In each group, I am going to
give you strips of paper that contain
the definitions of the elements of a
short story on the board. You just
have to paste each paper beside the
specific element which you think
defines it. This activity is just only
for 5 minutes. The group that will get
the greater number of the correct
definition of elements will have
additional 5 points in your
performance task later. Do you
understand?
Yes, Sir!
Alright, let’s start.
Alright, time’s up! (Students tape the definition on the board.)
(Teacher flashed the definition of the
5 elements)
Very good, group A got all.
Group B, you did a great job too.
C. Presentation of the Lesson
(Teacher tapes the elements)

activity are essential in our lesson

1. Valuing
We are going to read a parable titled,
The Parable of the Sower, but first,
what is a parable?
A parable is a simple story used to illustrate
a moral or spiritual lesson as told by Jesus in
the Gospels.
From which book can we find and
read a lot of parables?
We can read parables in the bible.
Very good!
a. Introduction of character in the
story
Before discussing the parable, let’s
get to know first the character in our
story.
The character in the story is a sower. A
sower means farmer, he plants crops.
b. Unlocking difficulties
On the other hand, let us familiarize
ourselves with the words that we will
encounter when we read the parable.
(Let the students read the following
words and their definitions.)
Word Definition
Sower a person who plants
the seed; a farmer
sow plant (seed) by
scattering it on or in
the earth.
devoured eat (food or prey)
hungrily or quickly.
sprang to grow or appear
suddenly
scorched burned by flames or
heat.
withered (of a plant) dry and
wrinkled.
thorns a stiff, sharp-
pointed, straight, or
curved woody
projection on the
stem or other part
of a plant.
choked fill (a passage or
space), especially to
make movement
difficult or
impossible.
hundredfold Multiply by a
hundred times
Very good! Now you are familiar
with those words.
c. Reading the parable
For this lesson we are guided with
these questions: Guide questions:
What is the story all about?
Who are the characters?
What is the theme?
What is the point of view of the story?
Why is it important to you to know the
parable of the sower?
What are the 4 types of soil in the story?
What are the lessons in the parable?
How can we relate the parable to our life?
Now, let us read the parable of the
Sower.
(Let the students read the parable)
(Students read the parable.)
To better understand the parable, we
are going to watch its short clip, you
must watch it quietly and attentively.
(Students watch the short clip.)
D. Discussion
Well done!
Now let us answer the guide
questions that we have presented
earlier.
(Let the students read and answer the
guide questions.) What is the story all about?
It is all about the Sower who sowed
seeds in 4 different soils.
Who are the characters?
The characters are Jesus, the crowd,
and the Sower.
What is the theme?
The theme is all about growth,
change, and faith.
What is the point of view of the story?
Third-person point of view
Why is it important to you to know the
parable of the Sower?
It is important because it deepens my
faith in God.
I realized that I should live with the
learnings that I have learned at the
church.
What are the 4 types of soil in the story?
The four types of soil in the story are
dry ground, rocky, thorny, and good
soil.
What are the lessons in the parable?
To be good soil so that I can be a
good child of God.
How can we relate the parable to our life?
Sometimes we are just like the 4 soils
when we are receiving the Words of
God however, we can always choose
to become a good soil and live the
way how God wants us to live.
Very good!
Do you think that the parable is about
the Sower, the seeds, and the soil
literally? No, Sir.
How do you say so? I think the Sower in the story is God. The
seeds are the Words of God, while the four
types of soil pertain to the different people
who received the Words of God.
Yes, indeed. Very good!
The parable also used some figures of
speech. What do we mean when we
say figures of speech? A figure of speech is a word or phrase that is
used in a non-literal way to create an effect.
We are going to discuss 5 figures of
speech and afterward, we will know
which of those 5 is evident in the
Parable of the Sower.
What is the first one? A metaphor is a comparison of one thing to
another without the use of a commonly
known sign or equation.
How about the second figure of
speech? Simile explicitly denotes a comparison. It
uses the word “like” or “as”.
What is an Allegory? Allegory is a comparison that reflects the
entire work or a large part of the work. It is
usually something abstract or religious.
What is the last figure of speech?
Myth is a traditional or legendary story
usually concerning some being or a hero
with or without a determinable basis of fact
or a natural explanation.
Alright, very good!
From which figures of speech does
the Parable of the Sower belongs? The parable of the Sower is an allegory.
What makes you say it’s an allegory? It is an allegory because it is a religious work
and it uses the seeds and the four types of
soil as a comparison to the word of God and
the people.
Indeed. Very good!
E. Application
Now for your activity. We are going
to have an interactive quiz game with
the same group that you had earlier. I
am going to flash the question then
the first group to clap three times will
be the first to answer. What is a simple story which used to
illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson as told
by Jesus in the Gospels?
Parable
Very good group A! What is the figure of speech that is evident in
the Parable of the Sower?

Good job group B! It is an element of the story which tells the
people involved in the story.

for today’s lesson? I learned about the elements of the
