The design situation
The cost of housing in major cities such as sydney will continue to increase
causing housing prices to be unaffordable for many people. An alternative to
houses are tiny houses/ apartments which are just small houses stacked on
top of each other. Tiny houses also have a smaller impact on the environment
and are more affordable for people to buy and live in.
Design brief
Research and design your own low cost resource efficient tiny house that is
aesthetic, functional and ergonomic
Design limitations of the tiny house
Tine home is a home of 40 meters squared or less,on wheels or foundation.

The layout must include a bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, living space

Design should be environmentally sustainable, taking account of recycled

materials

Tiny house should be mobile or in a fixed location.

Tiny house must use solar energy and water tank or recycled water.
Success criteria
1. Design: creating a idea and making changes overtime
2. A process overtime changing a design and generating new ideas
3. Thinking of ideas and bringing them to life

Design thinking using strategies

Analysing the brief
We need to successfully create a tiny home capable for a human to live in
without being uncomfortable or not have resources a regular house would
have. It is important we make this house as emission free as possible, this can
be done through solar panels, and water tanks that do not damage the
environment but provide the house with necessities for living.
What are tiny homes
Tiny homes are a social movement of not living in the traditional large
spacious house but instead, living in a smaller house that produces less co2
emissions and a smaller space that the house takes up.
Solar panel function
sun shines onto a solar panel, energy from the sunlight is absorbed by the PV cells in the panel.
This energy creates electrical charges that move in response to an internal electrical field in the
cell, causing electricity to flow to the house.

About 15 to 20 solar panels are needed to power a entire house

For solar panels to work effectively it needs to be placed in a area that receives a lot of sunlight
otherwise the house will have no power going into it
Water tank function
Rainwater is collected in a catchment area, normally a roof on a house or shed. The water is
collected in the gutter connected to the roof, then funnelled into the water tank from a pipe
connected to the gutters. The water is then transported to the house via a rainwater pressure pump
and pressure accumulator tank.

Water tanks can be used to wash clothes, clean your car and for drinking
