Transgender women vs Drag queens

Ever since the LGBTQ+ community has been publicly established in 1924 the world has been quite

confused, hateful, and ignorant because people can’t wrap their head around the thought of someone being

different. Mostly the confusion has always been forced in the label transgender and the art of being a drag

queen.

Trans women or also known as “ T women” and drag queens very far from being similar other than

both parties wearing women’s clothing. Trans woman are women who were born male but choose to live

their life solely as a female. The word trans is a umbrella term for those whose gender identity is

different than the one assigned at birth. They go through many operations and typically take hormones

blockers to stop their bodies from producing testosterone . They also take artificial female hormones to

help their body develop the natural changes that occur during puberty. In the 1940s it wasn’t acceptable to

be an open member of the LGBTQ+ community especially as a trans woman. Most people just thought

they were still men even post operation. Society was very adamant about vocalizing there opinion on the

community as a whole.

Drag queens aren’t categorized separately from every other sexuality or gender because a large

percentage of drag queens are made up of people all throughout the community. The term drag is in

reference to women’s clothing being worn typically by men. Drag is also followed by overly exaggerated

makeup and feminine traits while taking on very feminine gender roles mostly for performance purposes

only. Drag is used by many to express artistic talents, quirky antics, and creative abilities. Many fee as

though ya liberation to be able to put on a pair of heels, some makeup and a dress and be someone else for

a few hours. Drag queens differ from T women because drag queen are typically males who enjoy being

men but also love having the option to become a “woman” and nothing less.

The 50s through the 70s were horrific times for both T women and Drag queens. The world was not

ready for homosexuals at the moment. At that time anyone that wanted to be trans or a drag queen either

never got the opportunity to do it publicly or never told anyone about doing it as opposed to aspiring drag

queens having to dress up in the comfort of your own home. As of 2018 the LGBTQ+ community is

commended and recognized by many. The world went from having to hide to being able to walk outside

all dolled up and be cheered on for it. In addition the trans community has also hit mainstream seeing as

there's a dance show named “Pose” for the trans community. Alongside is “Rupaul's drag race” that

showcases many amazing drag queens. The community also have the month of June of recognition and

celebration of being different and coming together in which is inclusive.
