SICAM 8 Software Solution
SICAM S8000
SICAM 8
Software Solution
Software that can be used on different hardware with
Linux Real Time operating system!
SICAM S8000
Part of SICAM 8 – Software Solution
SICAM S8000
Practical Example
Our aim:
- Install SICAM S8000 on the LINUX PC
- Integrate a SIPROTEC 5 device via
IEC61850
LINUX PC with pre-installed
LINUX Debian 11
IEC 61850
And now we install the S8000 package with the
command „./setup.sh“
When prompted, we give a name for the
instance of SICAM S8000 we are installing.
Example: SICORE1
And then we continue with ENTER
The setup has been finished
Now, pay attention to the file
system_config.json where the links between
PC and the factory settings of the S8000
instance are defined.
Here you can see the definition of the engineering ip
address, and the link between the physical Ethernet
port in the PC (in this case, ens33) and the internal
LAN port defined in S8000 (seth0).
Normally you don‘t have to change anything in this file. The
file is created automatically matching the MAC Addresses of
the physicall Ethernet ports available in the PC.
But you can check and adapt there the mapping done
between the physical interfaces (e.g. ens33) and the S8000
LAN interfaces (e.g. seth0)
The final step is to start the S8000 service of the installed
instance. Since we named this S8000 instance „SICORE1“, the
service can be started with the line command:
„systemctl start SICORE1“
After having done that, even if we reboot the PC again, upon
start up the S8000 service will be started automatically.
SICAM S8000
Practical Example
Step 2 - Engineering the S8000 Instance in SICAM Device Manager
IEC 61850
We will show the configuration in a new project, which we
have called “S8000Proj”
In order to be able to configure a SICAM S8000 instance, the minimum SICAM
Device Manager version required is the version 4
We will now create a new device through the add device button on the
upper-right corner…
We will define the name…
The device type…
And the engineering address (we should leave the default value at first), Region and component
number, and CASDU1 and CASDU2, exactly as we do when configuring a SICAM A8000
Now we can click on the container that has been created for the configuration of our SICAM S8000
We will first configure the SICAM S8000 hardware
We add the CPU…
We add the CPU…
We add the CPU…with the corresponding firmware for the core system and SICAM Web
We can now check the properties of
the created CPU…
We can now check the properties of
the created CPU… where the internal ethernet connection seth0 is included
Next, we go to Home…and from there,
to „Communication“
There, the LAN interface LAN1 is
defined and assigned to the virtual
Ethernet interface defined in the
hardware
Under „Server services“
it can be defined
through which LAN the
configuration of the
S8000 will be possible
Now, we go back to „Home“ again, and we will go to the box
„Application configuration“, where we can equipp the S8000
with the firmware for the applications we want to have
there.
The core firmware
(SICORE) has been
already equipped as we
created the S8000
Under „S8000 RTU“ we
can enter the standard
RTU firmware…
So we add first the
master component…
And now, within the
central master
component, we will add
the firmware for the
communication
protocols. In our case
we are interested in the
ETI5 firmware for
IEC61850
Now that we have equipped the IEC61850 firmware, we can
proceed to integrate the SIPROTEC 5 device. This is done in
exactly the same way it is done on any SICAM A8000 RTU.
Now that we have equipped the IEC61850 firmware, we can
proceed to integrate the SIPROTEC 5 device. This is done in
exactly the same way it is done on any SICAM A8000 RTU.
We must go to the ETI5 client box of the corresponding PRE…
And now we select the “import” button on the upper-right corner…
where we now select the configuration file to import (CID/IID/SCD)
We select now the device to import…
And the information to import…
And the information to import…
And the information to import…
And the information to import…
And the information to import…
We confirm the selection…
SICAM S8000
Practical Example
Step 3 – Loading the S8000 configuration on the LINUX PC
IEC 61850
The loading is performed from SICAM Device Manager on the device
configuration going back to Home, and then going to the box
“Upload & Download”
After the first connection the warning
related to untrusted certificates is
displayed.
Then, a user name and password is
requested.
Since this is the initialization of the
S8000, the user name is “administrator”,
and there is no associated password, so
this field is left blank
The S8000 will request then to define a
new password.
The comparison between what has been loaded (nothing, since the S8000 is in factory settings) and what is in
SICAM Device Manager is displayed here.
We are advised to initialize the S8000.
We do this through the “Upload to device” button
Once ready, SDM indicates that all the update has been successful
We can now use SICAM Web to monitor our newly configured SICAM S8000

Practical Example
Configuration of this new application on a SICAM S8000
Configuration requirements:
- SICAM Device Manager License (Basic or Standard)
- SICAM Device Manager HMI Configuration License
The next step is to equip this firmware in our S8000
Now we can start configuring the Event and Alarm Archives (SICAM EVA)
On the left side we can see all the signals available in the S8000
If we select one signal, some
properties of this signal will be
offered on the right side.
I can simultaneously select several
signals at once, so I can work on their
properties „in bulk“
Like, for example, the commands…

On the left side we can also see the tab
„Objects“, where we can create several lists
with the help of the „Add“ button.
We can first create our total Alarm List…
And now we can create our total Event List…
In order to assign sigals to the
created lists, we need to open
them.
We just have to select the lists we
want to open, and then we click
on the Open button
In order to assign sigals to the

We just have to select the lists we

on the Open button
Now we must select the signals that we want to
assign to the event list, and then we can map
them to the event list through the Assign button
And now we do the same for the Alarm List
Now we can proceed to edit the SICAM HMI
application
We must first add a new graphic through the Add
button…
It could be the Single Line Diagram of our Bay
We select the type of graphic it should be according to the contents we want to
display on it
The space to draw the graphic is
available to the right
I can now add via drag-and-drop some elements, such as a
busbar…or a disconnector… or a circuit breaker…
or a feeder… or an earth-switch… with its earth symbol…
and maybe an angle to connect the earth switch to the feeder…
Finally, we would like to have also a text to label the bay

We could also add a measurement…
And now, we must connect the symbols and objects with the
corresponding signal they will animate. This we do via drag-and-
drop. This will be done for all symbols.
Now we will create a new graphic, for the event list.
We can now click here on the
middle, so the application
properties are visible. There I can
select the list from the SICAM EVA
application that will be displayed
here.
We will now create in the same way
a graphic for the Alarm List
Finally, we can create a couple of
navigation buttons in the SLD to
open the event or the alarm list
Now we must set up how the SICAM HMI
Application will be started
First, in
Communication –
Server interfaces we
can define if SICAM
Web will be logged-in
automatically
And in the RTU Settings we must define where the
log-on into SICAM Web will start…
We can define a default screen for the start up of
SICAM Web
And now we can create this selected screen and link
it directly to open the SICAM HMI application
And now we can load the changes in our SICAM
