Check the governor oil level
√
Drain the sediment from the sump of the fuel
tank and check the fuel level √
Check the level of the oil in the engine bed
plate
√
Inspect the level of water in the cooling
system. Top up as necessary √
With the engine running , check:-
Engine lubricating oil pressure
Fuel system for leaks
Performance of turbo-chargers
Check the viscosity of a sample of lubricating
√
oil
Open the turbo-charged casing drain pipe
cock; close after draining. √
Check on all casing and holding-down bolts for
tightness, but do not over tighten. √
Clean the air filter element (if fitted)
√
lubricate the governor external linkage
√
lubricate the over speed trip reset lever
bearing and check for freedom of movement √
With the engine running, check the supply of
lubricating oil to the valve gear; also inspect
cylinder head joints for leaks. √
Check that the fuel pump control linkage is
free. √
Draw off a sample of lubricating oil from bed
plate for chemical analysis. √
Clean magnetic plugs when fitted in the
lubricating oil filter. √
Check the charge cooler (when fitted) for air
and water leaks. √
Check the crank shaft alignment at the
flywheel end web only. √
check the cam shaft gears and the oil supply to
the gear train √
clean the filter (if fitted) in the governor valve
(when fitted) √
run the engine and check the over speed trip
operation ` √
clean the filter in the low lubricating oil
pressure shutdown valve if fitted √
Check the valve clearance and examine the
valve gear, inspect cylinder head joints fuel √
connection and compression release / relief
valves for leakage.
Remove all injectors and fit replacements
which have been over-hauled and set to the √
correct blow-off pressure.
Renew fuel filter cartridge.
√
Renew the lubricating oil filter elements.
√
Renew the oil in the bedplate when chemical
analysis indicates that this is necessary. √
Check the crank shaft alignment.
√
check the springs or the rubber blocks in the
flexible coupling (when fitted) √
clean and examine the explosion relief valves
(if fitted) √
Examine the lubricating oil and water pumps
driving gears; check the backlash and verify √
the lubricating oil supply.
Drain the governor and refill with new oil.
√
Strip and clean the turbo-blower(s) (if fitted),
renew the bearings and fit new joints. √
Dismantle, clean and examine the charge
cooler(s)(if fitted) √
