ASSIGNMENT 1

How Well Do You Know Your School Community & Culture?

DUE: January 8, 2023 at 3:30pm


Bring a hard copy of each part of the assignment
for each member of your group and me.

There are 4 parts to this assignment that focuses on how well you: 1) know your school
community and culture and, 2) can communicate its importance and relevance to student
learning. The rubric for this assignment can be found on page 3.

2. 5 Key People in Your School Community
3. Letter of Introduction
4. Student Interest Survey Student Sample

Overarching question: What is the current level of academic achievement for your students
and what are you going to do to address the learning challenge(s) that exist?

1) What school and district factors are significant to you? See A & B below. Begin with a one
paragraph description of significant school and district factors. Then complete the narrative
that demonstrates your knowledge of an assessment tool used at your school. What type of
assessment is it, how often is it administered, and what information does it provide? From
the assessment data: 1) identify an area of need and 2) state one learning goal you and your
mentor teacher have chosen to address the specific area(s) of need (use C). Include how the
assessment may or may not be modified to meet the needs of students who have unique
learning challenges and include that information in the narrative.

A - School and District Factors (choose at least 1 from the following options):
Socioeconomic Information; Census Data; School Performance Data; Enrollment; % or
students receiving free or reduced-price lunches; graduation rates; ethnicities, % of students
with IEPs; % of students who ELLs; and per pupil expenditure.

B - Classroom Demographics and Knowledge of Students Factors (choose at least 1 from the
following options):
Ethnicities; gender ratios; special needs; gifted students; physical needs; cultural needs;
language needs; approaches to learning; prior learning and experiences; and academic
proficiencies/behavioral differences.

C - Instructional and Support Resources:


Resources come from the community, policies and programs, support staff,
instructional materials, curricular programs, and instructional technology.

knowing what you know now will support your students’ learning this semester. Use
examples.
