B. Performance Standard : Apply some techniques that used in adding decimals to subtract
decimals.
C. Learning Competencies : Solve problems involving subtracting decimals.
III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Drill (Using flashcards)
Identify the place value of the underlined digit.
0.456 0.2398 2.394 9.78 6.3643
3. Motivation
Find the missing number.
1. 78 - ___ = 46
2. ___ - 64 = 5
3. 29 - ___ = 11
4. ___ - 18 = 25
5. 65 - ___ = 52
B. Developing Activities
1. Presentation
Line Up the Decimals
To subtract decimals you must subtract each digit from the digit of the same place value.
Subtract thousandths from thousandths.
Subtract hundredths from hundredths.
Subtract tenths from tenths.
2. Discussion
1. Rewrite the problem. Write the first number. Put the amount you are subtracting underneath
so the decimal points are in a straight column.
0.468 − 0.3 =
↑ ↑
starting number subtracting this much
0.468
0.3
2. Put zeros at the end of the decimals so that all the decimals in the question have the same
number of decimal places.
0.468 − 0.3 =
0.468
0.300
3. Subtract the numbers, keeping the decimal point in the answer directly beneath the other
decimal points.
0.468
0.300
