Gauges
Gauges
Limits Of Size : Low are extend permissible size between which the actual size is constant.
High Limit/Max Limit: (USL) Upper Specification Limit - dimension is the Maximum size.
Low Limit/Minimum Limit: (LSL) Lower Specification Limit - dimension is the smallest size
permissible.
TOLERANCE
The difference between higher limit and lower limits, which is allowed variations in process
Dimension.
- Unilateral Tolerance
- Bilateral Tolerance

- Classification
• Standard
• Limit
Gauge Purpose: - For checking the size shape, relative positions of various parts but not provided with
graduated adjustable numbers
Standard Gauge: -
1. Made to nominal size of part to be tested
2. Has the measuring number equal in size to be mean permissible diameters of the part to be checked
Limit Gauge: -
1. Made to the limit size of the work to be measured
2. One of the side length of made to correspond to the maximum permissible size of the other side end is
made to the correspond to the minimum permissible side.
3. Difference whether the actual dimensions of work are within or outside the specified limits.
4. Either double end or progressive double end
5. Has the “GO” member at one end and “NO-GO” member at the other end.
6. Progressive gauge has “NO-GO” member next each other
7. Applied “GO” work piece
S.NO GO NO-GO
1. More Length Shorter Length
2. Marked – “GO” Marked – “NO-Go”
3. No Mark or Green Mark Red Mark
4. Starting point Thread No Starting point Thread
5. No chamfered end Chamfered end
6. Liner slot in the plug No liner slot in the plug
Types
1. Plug Gauge:
For checking
- Difference size of Holes.
- Straight & cylindrical holes.
- Taped holes.
- Splined holes.
2. Ring Gauge :
- Used to check the external diameters.
4.Thread Gauge :-
- Thread gauge for internal threads.
- Ring Thread gauge
• For Checking external Threads
5.Form Gauge :-
- To Check the profile of a work piece for conformance to certain shape or form
specification
- Template Gauge
7.Radius Gauge :-
- To Check the radius of concave and convex surfaces
8.Feeler Gauge :-
- Used for Checking the clearance between the mating surface.
- (Size From - 0.03mm )
9.Indicating Gauge :-
- To employ a means to magnify how much a dimension deviates Plug or Minimum
from a given standard to which the gauge has been set
- Either Dial or lever type.
