Qn. Knowledge Supplement Organisation has set up its new
center at Mangalore for its office and web based activities. It has
4 blocks of buildings as shown in the diagram below:
Questions
a) Suggest the most suitable place (i.e., Wing) to house the
server of this organization with a suitable re ason, with
justification.
b) Suggest the most suitable place (i.e. block) to house the
server of this organization with a suitable reason.
c) Suggest the placement of the following devices
with justification
(i) Repeater (ii) Hub/Switch
d) The organization is planning to link its front office situated in
the city in a hilly region where cable connection is not
feasible, suggest an economic way to connect it with
reasonably high speed?
a) Suggest a cable layout of connections
between the blocks.
house the server of this organization with a
suitable
reason.
The most suitable place / block to house the
server of this organisation would be Block C, as
this
block contains the maximum number of
computers,
thus decreasing the cabling cost for most of the
computers as well as increasing the efficiency of
the
maximum computers in the network.
c) Suggest the placement of the following devices with
justification
(i) Repeater (ii) Hub/Switch
 (i) For Layout 1, since the
cabling distance between
Blocks A and C, and that
between B and C are quite
large, so a repeater each,
would ideally be needed
along their path to avoid loss
of signals during the course
of data flow in these routes.
c) Suggest the placement of the following devices with
justification
(i) Repeater (ii) Hub/Switch

 For layout 2, since

the distance
between Blocks A
and C is large so a
repeater would
ideally be placed in
between this path
c) Suggest the placement of the following devices with
justification
(i) Repeater (ii) Hub/Switch

 For layout 2, since

the distance
between Blocks A
and C is large so a
repeater would
ideally be placed in
between this path
c) Suggest the placement of the following devices with
justification
(i) Repeater (ii) Hub/Switch

 (ii) In both the layouts,

a hub/switch each
would be needed in all
the blocks, to
interconnect the group
of cables from the
different computers in
each block.
d) The organization is planning to link its front office situated in the
city in a hilly region where cable connection is not feasible, suggest
an economic way to connect it with reasonably high speed?

 The most economic way to connect it with a reasonable

high speed would be to use radio wave transmission, as
they are easy to install, can travel long distances, and
penetrate buildings easily, so they are widely used for
communication, both indoors and outdoors.
 Radio waves also have the advantage of being omni
directional, which is they can travel in all the directions from
the source, so that the transmitter and receiver do not have
to be carefully aligned physically..
Great Studies University is setting up its Academic schools at Sunder
Nagar and planning to set up a network. The university has 3
academic schools and one administration center as shown in the
diagram below:
i) Suggest the most suitable place (i.e. School/ Center) to install
the server of this university with a suitable reason.
Ans : Admin center as it has the most number of computers
(ii) Suggest an ideal layout for connecting these schools/ center
for a wired connectivity
Ans:
(iii) Which device will you suggest to be placed/installed in
each of these schools /
center to efficiently connect all the computers within these
schools / center?
Ans Switch/Hub

(iv) The university is planning to connect its admissionoffice in

the closest big city, which is more than 350 km from the
university. Which type of network out of LAN, MAN or WAN
will be formed? Justify your answer.
Ans:WAN as the distance is more than the range of LAN or
MAN.
1)Hi Standard Tech Training Ltd is a Mumbai based organization which is expanding its
office set-up to Chennai. At Chennai office compound, they are planning to have 3
different blocks for Admin, Training and Accounts related activities. Each block
has a number of computers, which are required to beconnected in anetwork for
communication, data and resource sharing. As a network consultant, you have to
suggest the best network related solutions for them for issues/problems raised by them
in (i) to (iv), as per the distances between various blocks/locations and other given
parameters.
i) Suggest the most appropriate block/ location to house the SERVER in the
CHENNAI Office (out of the 3 blocks) to get the best and effective connectivity.
Justify your answer.
Ans)Training Block - Because it has maximum

ii) Suggest the best wired medium and draw the cable layout (Block to Block) to
efficiently connect various blocks within the CHENNAI office compound. 1
Ans) Best wired medium:
Optical Fibre OR CAT5 OR CAT6 OR CAT7 ORCAT8 OR Ethernet Cable
number of computers.
Best Layout:
iii) Suggest a device/software and its placement that would provide
data security for the entire network of the CHENNAI office. (1)
Ans) Firewall - Placed with the server at the Training Block

iv) Suggest a device and the protocol that shall be needed to

provide wireless Internet access to all smartphone/laptop users in
the CHENNAI office(1)
Ans:
A)Device Name: WiFi Router OR WiMax OR RF Router OR
