What is communication?
is the transferring of a message from the sender to
the receiver, who understands the message.
External communication is very important to the image and efficiency of a business. If a company
communicates ineffectively with suppliers, it may be sent the wrong materials. If it sends
inaccurate information to customers, they may buy a product from another company.
Internal and External communication

Coca-Cola blog for worldwide employee survey
The Coca-Cola corporation is using a blog as a communication channel through which the 55 000
employees of the global company can provide their views on Coca-Cola’s vision, mission and values.
Orlando Ashford, head of Human Resources (HR) at Coca-Cola’s US headquarters in Atlanta,
Georgia, says that Coca-Cola can be one of the most respected companies in the world only when it’s
clear to employees what the company stands for.
This will only be achieved by effective internal communication. This blog method employee survey is
not unique. IBM has recently used a similar method. Ashford says he wants to see Coca-Cola
management everywhere in the world setting an example and participating in blogging.

Methods of production
• Job production is where a single product is made at
a time.
Job production involves intermittent process as the work is carried as and when the order is received. It consists
of bringing together of material, parts and components in order to assemble and commission a single piece of
equipment or product. Ship building, dam construction, bridge building, book printing are some of the
examples of job production.
This method is generally similar to job production except the quantity of production. Instead of making one
single product as in case of job production, a batch or group of products are produced at one time. It should be
remembered here that one batch of products may not resemble with the next batch.
1. The units flow from one operation point to another throughout the whole process.
2. There will be one type of machine for each process.
3. The products, tools, materials and methods are standardised.
4. Production is done in anticipation of demand.
Advantages of methods of production
Advantages of job production
• It is most suitable for personal services or ‘one-off’ products.
• The product meets the exact requirements of the customer.
• The workers often have more varied jobs (they don’t carry out just one task).
2. Hudson Limited has been in business for ten years manufacturing components for cars. It sells to
several large car producers. Hudson Limited wants to expand and manufacture components for aircraft
engines. It has decided to build a new factory abroad, near to where aircraft engines are manufactured.
Some of the new components it plans to produce will be designed for only one type of engine, whereas
most of the other components will be standardized and used in several different models of engine. Hudson
Limited has chosen the new site for the factory but has not decided on the method of production to use.
You have been asked to advise it on what to use. Explain your choice of the method(s) of production it
should use.
