2. Cite two (2) legal bases of Non-Formal Education (NFE) and provide
thorough discussions for each.
Answer:
Below are the legal foundations of Non-Formal Education (NFE).
Answer:
School closures due to covid-19 have brought significant disruptions to
education across the country. In the field of education, this emergency has led
to the massive closure of face-to-face activities of educational institution in
more than 190 countries in order to prevent the spread of the virus and
mitigate it’s impact. Due to this scenario, Teachers and NFE implementers
encountered challenges and difficulties which gave them a hard time in
catering their students. One example is online distance learning. This type of
learning is exclusive only to those students who are capable of securing
gadget and a stable internet connection while other students are struggling
just to have their gadget and secure internet connection. Because of this, other
students choose to work rather than study. In order to cope up with this case,
Teachers adapted the modular learning where in parents will go to respective
schools to get series of modules from different subjects that the student will
answer and returned it in a given deadline or due date.
4. Provide a thorough discussion on the role of NFE in eradicating
illiteracy among out of school youth and adults and the provision of
accessible and quality education for all Filipinos.
Answer:
The mission of Non-Formal Education (NFE) is to empower the Filipino
with desirable knowledge, skills, attitude and values that will enable him/her to
think critically and creatively, act innovatively and humanely in improving the
quality of his/her life and that of his/her family community and country. NFE
aims to reduce the number of illiterate out-of-school youth and adults with
need-based literacy programs, plus continue education through basic
development projects. Activities that fall under this system of education range
from vocational training to adult reading classes, from family planning
sessions to cultural and leadership workshops for community leaders.
Therefore we can say that NFE has a huge contribution in eradicating
illiteracy through it’s programs and activity which supports adults and out-of-
school youth to have quality education for their present and future lives.
5.Describe how Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the department of
education (DepEd) implements the learning continuity including
assessment of learning during covid-19 pandemic considering face to
face restriction and compliance to Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) on
covid-19 health protocol.
Answer:
The teaching and learning process assumes a different shapes in
times of crisis. When disasters and crises (man-made and natural) occur,
schools and colleges need to be resilient and find new ways to continue the
teaching-learning activities (Chang-Richards et al.,2013).
Alternative Learning System (ALS) is a parallel learning system in the
Philippines that provides opportunities for out-of-school youth and adults
(OSYA) learners to develop basic and functional literacy skills and to access
equivalent pathways to complete basic education. The ALS program follows
the guidelines of IATF with regards to protocol in handling and conducting
class as of the pandemic threatens all over the country. There is no face to
face classes but our teachers integrate ways on how to deliver lessons
effectively. Adapting modular learning is a great help when we speak of
continuity of learning during this time of pandemic. Also ALS provide links for
the online distance learning for those students who are capable of securing
gadgets and a stable internet connection to attend classes.
