NO.# 70 Why is God Worthy of your Trust?
Just Imagine you are in a plane flying into difficult weather conditions, then the
plane starts to experience severe turbulence, you can hear the screams of fellow
passengers. You may start to wonder are we going to survive this or not?
But right at that moment who will you trust the most? Will you trust the
passenger next to you, even if it is someone you know, or will you trust the pilot?
Well surely you will not trust the passenger next to you, because they are in the
same situation with you.
So most likely you will trust the pilot, Why? Because he has been trained on how
to fly the plane through bad weather conditions and he has his instruments and
ground control to help him, because of his experience he can complete his journey
and land safely.
In a comparable we are living in a world that we can say is experiencing bad
weather conditions and it will continue to get worse day by day, just has foretold
in the scriptures we are living critical times hard to deal with, which will signify the
beginning of pangs of distress before the great tribulation. We are even told that
the world has never experience something like this before.
Now whether we have been serving Jehovah for many years or we just started
serving him and developing a relationship with him. There is one question we all
need to ask ourselves. And that question is very simple. Will I Survive?
Well there is good news, we all can survive, but in order for us to do so, while we
can put a measure of trust in each other, we must put our ultimate trust in
Jehovah.
Yes, because of his vast years of experience he has the abilities and the resources
necessary to help all of us to survive.
He even invites us to trust him, how do we know that? Let’s turn to Proverbs
3:5&6, and you can mark your bible there, because we will examine a few verses
from this chapter. Proverbs 3:5&6, It’s says if you have found it.
“5Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and do not rely on your own
understanding. 6In all your ways take notice of him, and he will make your
paths straight.”
Has our creator, Jehovah knows exactly what we are capable of, he knows fully
well that we cannot guide ourselves, and if we think he is wrong, all we have to do
is look at what is happening around the world and in our own country.
So When we face our trials who should we turn to? When we have to make a
difficult decision whose guidance do we seek?
Well if we are truly trusting in Jehovah and not leaning on our own understanding,
we will look to Jehovah for help, we will ponder over what he says, we will obey
his commandments and we will make decisions based on his principles.
But why should we trust Jehovah? Why is he worthy of our trust?
Let’s look at four reasons why Jehovah is worthy of our full trust.
Reason [1] Jehovah has Unlimited power, because of this he can help you at all
times and in any situation. But how powerful is Jehovah? Well in human terms we
can never measure how powerful Jehovah really is, but we can examine his
creations to grasp it.
OUR sun is only an average-size star. Even so, its mass is 330,000 times greater
than the mass of the earth. The majority of nearby stars are smaller than the sun.
Other stars, though, such as the one named V382 have a mass at least 27 times
greater than our sun.
How much energy does our sun radiate? Imagine how fierce a fire would have to
be if you were ten miles [15 km] from it and could still feel the heat. The sun is,
on average, about 93 million miles [150 million km] from the earth. Yet, on a sunny
day, its heat can blister the skin! Remarkably, only about one billionth of the
sun’s energy strikes the earth. Still, this fraction of the sun’s power is enough to
sustain life on the planet.
In fact, scientists have calculated that the total energy output from just our sun is
enough to sustain some 31 trillion planets like the earth. Or to measure this
enormous output another way: If all the sun’s power could be harnessed for
just one second, it would provide the United States “with enough energy, at its
current usage rate, for the next 9,000,000 years,” says the Space Weather
Prediction Center (SWPC) Web site.
The sun’s energy emanates from its core—a nuclear reactor that smashes atoms
together and spews out power. The sun is so big and its core so dense that it
takes millions of years for the energy produced within the core to well up to the
surface. “If the Sun were to stop producing energy today,” says the SWPC Web
site, “it would take 50,000,000 years for significant effects to be felt at Earth!”
Another symbol of Jehovah power are Angels. The bible tells us that when the
Assyrian army attacked God’s people, a single angel killed 185,000 of those
soldiers in one night, and just imagine Jehovah created angel, so if he created
angel and they are capable of such feats, imagine what their creator is capable of.
The prophet Daniel had a vision of heaven in which he saw well over 100 million
spirit creatures before Jehovah’s throne, but there is no indication that he saw the
entire angelic creation. There is no doubt that Jehovah has unlimited power.
Reason [2] Jehovah is very Wise. Because of wisdom, he always knows what is
best for you. Have you ever thought of Jehovah wisdom?
To illustrate just a few, Some body parts are immensely complex. Consider, for
example, the human brain. Some have called it the most complex object yet
discovered in the universe. It contains some 100 billion nerve cells—perhaps as
many as the number of stars in our galaxy. Each of those cells branches off into
thousands of connections with other cells. Scientists say that a human brain could
contain all the information in all the world’s libraries and that its storage capacity
may, in fact, be unfathomable. Despite decades of studying this “wonderfully
made” organ, scientists admit that they may never fully understand how it works.
Psalm 104:24 says: “How many your works are, O Jehovah! You have made all of
them in wisdom. The earth is full of what you have made.” Jehovah’s wisdom is
apparent in every creation around us. The ant, for example, is “instinctively wise.”
Indeed, ant colonies are superbly organized. Some ant colonies tend, shelter, and
draw nourishment from insects called aphids as if these were livestock. Other ants
act as farmers, raising and cultivating “crops” of fungus.
Many other creatures have been programmed to do remarkable things by instinct.
A common fly performs aerobatic feats that the most advanced of man’s aircraft
cannot duplicate. Migrating birds navigate by the stars, by the orientation of the
earth’s magnetic field, or by some form of internal map. Biologists spend years
studying the sophisticated behaviors that have been programmed into these
creatures. How wise, then, the divine Programmer must be! Without a doubt
nothing in the universe can compare to Jehovah’s wisdom.
Reason [3] Jehovah is always Just. His Justice gives assurance that he always
does what is right, he will always treat you fairly.
Jehovah’s justice, like every other facet of his matchless personality, is perfect, not
lacking in anything. Extolling Jehovah, Moses wrote: “The Rock, perfect is his
activity, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness who is never unjust;
righteous and upright is he.” Every expression of Jehovah’s justice is flawless—
never too lenient, never too harsh.
To illustrate Jehovah Justice, we can look at how he dealt with disadvantages ones
in Israel. Jehovah’s concern for disadvantaged ones is evident in the Law he gave
to Israel. For example, the Law made special provisions to ensure that orphans
and widows were cared for. Recognizing how difficult life could be for such
families, Jehovah himself became their fatherly Judge and Protector, the one who
“executes justice for the fatherless child and the widow.” Jehovah warned the
Israelites that if they victimized defenseless women and children, he would
unfailingly hear the outcry of such ones. He stated: “My anger will blaze.” While
anger is not one of Jehovah’s dominant qualities, he is provoked to righteous
indignation by deliberate acts of injustice, especially when the victims are the
lowly and the helpless and when we look at what Jehovah has done for us by
sending his Son to pay our ransom, we cannot deny that Jehovah is a God of
Justice.
Reason [4] Jehovah’s Love. Jehovah’s love guarantees that he will never abandon
you. The does not say that Jehovah has love, it says he is love. That means
everything Jehovah does is motivated by Love.
To illustrate Jehovah’s love for us, Jesus said: “Two sparrows sell for a coin of
small value, do they not? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your
Father’s knowledge, he even said that the hairs of our head are all numbered.
Now why does this illustrate Jehovah’s love for us?
Well, in Jesus’ day the sparrow was the cheapest of the birds sold as food. Notice
that for one coin of small value, a purchaser got two sparrows. But Jesus later
stated that if a person was prepared to spend two coins, he got, not four
sparrows, but five. The extra bird was added as though it had no value at all.
Perhaps such creatures were worthless in the eyes of men, but how did the
Creator view them? Jesus said: “Not one of them [not even the one added in] is
forgotten by God.” Now we may begin to see Jesus’ point. If Jehovah places such
value on a single sparrow, of how much greater worth and loved is a human!
As Jesus also explained, Jehovah knows every detail about us. Why, the very hairs
of our head are numbered! Our hairs numbered? Some might assume that Jesus
was being unrealistic here. Just think, though, about the hope of the resurrection.
How intimately Jehovah must know us in order to re-create us! He values us so
much that he remembers every detail, including our genetic code and all our years
of memories and experiences. a Numbering our hairs—of which the average head
grows about 100,000—would be a simple feat by comparison.
And when we think about all the things that Jehovah does for us each day, for
instance unlike the various utilities companies that charge us for water and
electricity, Jehovah gives us Sun, rain and the oxygen we are breathing free of
charge. Without a doubt Jehovah is Love.
Let’s add in a fifth Reason, what is that? His very name Jehovah and what it
means. The meaning of God’s name emphasizes why you can trust in him.
What do we know about the meaning of God’s name? Many scholars agree that
the name Jehovah seems to mean “He Causes to Become.” That meaning reminds
us that Jehovah has an unstoppable will, and he can make things happen. How
so?
Jehovah makes things happen by becoming whatever is needed in order to fulfill
his purpose. Jehovah can also cause his imperfect human servants to become
what is needed in order to serve him and fulfill his purpose. In these ways, Jehovah
causes his will to be carried out.
When we think of these five reason, His Power, Wisdom, Justice, Love and the very
meaning of his name, I am sure you would agree with the bible writer who was
inspired to say of Jehovah at Ps 84:12 – “Happy is the man who put his trust in
you”.
But a question arises, how can we show that we trust in Jehovah?
Well one reason is mention at Proverbs 3:7&8, let’s read that scripture together.
It says if you have found it.
“7Do not become wise in your own eyes. Fear Jehovah and turn away from
bad.8It will be a healing to your body and refreshment for your bones.”
Because of imperfection it is not always easy for us to not listen to ourselves or
listen to someone in the world, why, because their way is always easier, but what
does it leads to? Well in our first image on one side it shows us, nothing good.
We don’t want to become wise in our own eyes, we want to trust in Jehovah and
do what the brother is doing on the other side of the image, seek Jehovah
guidance, it will protect us from physical and emotional harm. Also by gaining and
apply Jehovah’s wisdom in our life, it will lead to happiness and life not just now
but forever.
A second reason is found at Proverbs 3:9&10. It says if you have found it.
“9Honor Jehovah with your valuable things, With the first fruits of all your
produce; 10 Then your storehouses will be completely filled, And your vats will
overflow with new wine.”
What is this scripture telling us? Well the first fruits of the harvest were
considered to be very valuable. So basically Jehovah is here encouraging us to
honor him from our most valuable things. But most of us don’t farm or harvest so
what valuable things is he referring to?
Well Jehovah is referring to our time, the talents or skills that we possess and the
strength we have and anything that we may have because of those three things
and he is asking us to show that we trust him by using these things to honor him.
Now because of who our adversary is doing this will be the easiest and hardest
thing. Easy because Jehovah will give you strength you need if you trust him and
hard because it goes against our imperfect nature. Because of this some have
even hold back from serving Jehovah because they may think it requires a lot of
time and energy.
But we all need to remember something very important and that is Jehovah is a
family head. Because of being family head he is aware that each of creation has
needs.
He is aware that all of have needs, that we have a need to provide physically and
materially for ourselves, pay for things like utilities, he is aware, if he wasn’t, then
he wouldn’t be a good father.
So he is not asking for all of our time and energy, like our second image show, he
is asking us not to make these things the priority in our lives and neglect do things
for him.
If we show our trust in Jehovah by making his worship our priority, be assure that
Jehovah promises to care for those who give generously to him.
To illustrate what Jehovah is asking us for, imagine that you work very hard and
you earn 24 dollars, you then give that 24 dollars to someone that you care for,
and you have been doing this for years. But then one day you ask that same
person to start giving you back at least 2 dollars a day, to show how much they
love and trust you, and that person, decides not to do that, how would you feel?
Well just imagine how Jehovah, the father who gives us 24 hours a day, oxygen to
breathe, sun and moon to light our path, rain to bring water for us free of charge,
just imagine how he feels when we choose not to show that we trust him and
honor him with our valuable things.
Another way that we show that we trust Jehovah is found at Proverbs 3:11&12,
Let’s read that together, have you found it this is what it says.
“11My son, do not reject the discipline of Jehovah, and do not loathe his
reproof,12For those whom Jehovah loves he reproves, just as a father does a
son in whom he delights.”
We are all imperfect, which means we will not always get things right and we may
have to be discipline.
When we receive that discipline, and it may come in various ways has our third
image shows, whether it may come from an elder, a mature Christian, a parent, a
watchtower article or maybe a scripture we read, may we all accept and
remember that it is out of fatherly love, out of the love and care Jehovah has for
us.
It may be painful and it may hit you hard, but be thankful that the matter was
called to your attention, that someone cared and love you enough to set you
straight and that it is better to be corrected early in a wrong course than to go
unchecked and never be offended when discipline comes.
Instead of pointing to or twisting the bible verse to suite our opinion, view the
instruction not as arbitrary rules but as evidence of Jehovah loving interest,
recognize His Authority and make changes, never allowing the discipline to make
us slowdown in our spiritual activities or become inactive.
Some may even hold back from dedication and baptism because they fear making
a mistake afterward, but remember even if we commit a serious sin, out of love
we will be discipline but because of that same love Jehovah remains eager to help
us get back up and correct our course.
When we accept discipline from Jehovah we are infect building and making him
our ultimate trust.
So what are the three ways we show that we trust Jehovah, can you remember
then.
[1] Do not become wise in your own eyes, [2] Honor Jehovah with your valuable
things, [3] Do not reject the discipline of Jehovah.
So now that we have learn how to show that we trust Jehovah, what next do we
need to do?
Well we need to make Jehovah our source of Confidence.
Have you ever experience a sleepless night worrying about something? Sometimes
we may can’t sleep because we are worrying about paying bills, our rent,
providing a home or food for our family, maybe we are dealing with a health
problems or a family member is.
Maybe we are dealing with emotional or mental problems? Maybe we want to do
more for Jehovah, but because it will call for us making changes in our lives and
just thinking about those problems make us can’t sleep?
Do you think children have sleepless nights thinking about these things? No they
don’t. Why? First of all, these things don’t even come up into their minds. Second
from day one they have built and made their parents their confidence. They have
confidence in their parents to provide and keep them safe.
We need to have that same confidence in Jehovah. And when we choose to make
Jehovah our confidence, when we have confidence that he too will provide and
keep us safe, our sleep will be pleasurable.
When we make Jehovah our confidence, we will not even be afraid of the coming
great tribulation on the wicked.
And even if we die, if we make Jehovah our confidence we can be assure that he
will resurrect us when the time comes.
So brothers will you, will I continue to make Jehovah my confidence? The bible
tells us at Proverbs 3:26 that “Jehovah is ready for us to make him our
confidence”, so it is up to us.
Yes, brothers and friends the “Time left is reduced” for Jehovah to remove the
wicked, but he wants all of us to make him our confidence so that we can survive.
Going back to the illustration mention at the beginning of the talk, if we were on
the plane we would not hesitate to put our trust and confidence in the pilot.
Similarly, now is not the time to hesitate to put our trust and confidence in
Jehovah.
If want to land safely in the paradise, let us listen, remember, and apply the
instruction found in Jehovah Word, The Bible. Let us continue Trusting in Jehovah
and never Lean on our own understanding. Let us strive always to Honor Jehovah
with our best and Accept Discipline regardless where it comes from. Let us Value
Godly Wisdom as Greater than Material Gain.
If we can do these things and do them the way Jehovah approves, then be assure
that we are making Jehovah our confidence and we are showing him that he is
worthy of our trust
